The world water day comes up every year on the 23rd of March but for 2018 its on 22nd of March 2018. Its a day used for calling for the management of good source of drinking water (freshwater). Most countries in this part of the world are blessed with abundant fresh water aside those in the desert region. Its on the record that 4000 children are killed on daily basis from bad water and 50% of 1.45 billion of people living within Africa are threatened by lack of good drinking waterREF.

In Nigeria the situation is very horrible considering the fact that we have plenty freshwaters around as streems or rivers but still lacks good drinking water. Its on report that over 130million Nigerians lack access to safe water and adequate sanitation of over two-thirds of the countries populations. Even areas with big rivers still suffer this. The governments of the day have done nothing to take this clean water to homes. This has led to the deaths of over 60,000 under the age of 5 every year from diarrhoea as a result of bad water and poor sanitation.

The water from the streem above are fetched and taken for drinking and cooking of foods. This is what is you see in virtually every town and villages in Nigeria. For those in urban areas with good drinking water are not properly treated and are most times more dangerous than the untreated water. We have the likes of bottled and satchet water that are not well treated.

A little boy hawking satchet water as its called ('pure water').

We see this always as a result of poverty. A boy who should be in school is out in the high way Hawking endangering his life. Let me go back to our discussion… the water above is taken by many and is not safe at all.

What is the source if your drinking water?

Why we should drink water

Water has so much benefits in the body. There are so many reasons i think we should drink water but i will highlight only 4 benefits.

  1. It helps maintain the balance of body fluids. Body fluids include digestion, creation of saliva, absorption etc.
  2. It helps to control calories. Dieters do this a lot by drinking a lot of water instead if beverages with a lot of calories for weight loss.
  3. It helps the skin to look good. Not drinking a lot of water might lead to dehydration and its immediate effect can be a dry and a wrinkled skin. Your skin contains a lot of water so to keep it glowing you need to drink plenty of water always.
  4. It helps your kidney: Water does a lot of job in the proper function of the body which includes the kidney. With the kidney cleansing and ridding the body of toxins with the aid of plenty fluids in the body.
