Good day my dear people. Today’s topic is written under my Health is wealth category and my focus point will be about the recent soot that is been disturbing the people of Port-Harcourt City in Nigeria.
What is Soot? Am asking this question and answering it for those who may be asking.. It’s a deep black powdery substance which consists of large amorphous carbon, that is usually produced by incomplete burning of organic matter. It may interest you to know that this kind of subsbatnce has been proven to be dangerous to human health and seeing that such thing is clouding the sky of Port-Harcourt poses a very great treat to all lives around the region.
Recently there has been developments claiming that there are illegal production of crude products within the Niger Delta region of Nigerian and Port-Harcourt has been at the heart of it. And as a result of that, the region is facing high environmental pollution. This environmental pollution has been on for more than 2 yeas now and the resident of the area are no longer happy with its recent out comes. This is because it is gradually degenerating lives, increasing risk of cancer, causing respiratory and kidney diseases which are among the many health challenges been faced in the city.
Other challenges includes those found in the living rooms, offices and shops where your room, property, clothes, electronic materials, goods and services are no longer safe because they get caught up by soot.
To make things worst, when it rains, all you see is block water falling from the sky. Now imagine you were caught in the rain, you will consider that day a very bad day because you might have just face the worst trauma of your life.
Although there have been some actions by the federal government to stop the soot earlier which did seems to work for a while but recently the problem resurfaced with higher margin making it look as though nothing was done. As a result of this, resident are no longer safe and it has also created panic amidst many.
However the people of Port Harcourt has taken it upon themselves to stand up and do something before its too late and they have come up with a march which says #StopTheSoot. This march is on all social media which includes twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, telegram etc and and pray this time it yields lasting results.
Below are some reactions from social media. They are calling on Nigerians to join them in making sure the soot is stoped and a healthy Port-Harcourt is sure again.
If you are living within Port Harcourt and you are experiencing this soot in your area, we would love to here your comment, thanks
