Saw an article titled "BMI is BS" today on CNN and after reading it I had to rant a little.
First off I'm tired of hearing about this crap, and it's always from obese people. The ones who try and push this are never the in-shape ones, and it just makes them seem like whiny little babies.
BMI is a tool, which when used the right way and in the right circumstances, does its job.
It's a quick way to see if you are at a healthy weight for your age/height/sex.
"But what about muh muscle??" - Fuck you. If you really had the amount of muscle required to put you in the overweight/obese category you wouldn't be worried about it. At that point you would be tracking body fat percentage, because that would be the better (read more accurate tool).
"So you're saying BMI is inaccurate"- Yes. It has some errors in it, but guess what. They are errors in your favor. That's right, its more likely to tell you you are a healthy weight when you aren't. So if BMI says you're a fat ass, you're a fat ass. If it says healthy, you might still be a fat ass.
So let's all just shut up about BMI
-end rant for now
