Could a plant-based diet help to reduce the risk of heart failure?
The study analyzed five separate diet types and they found that the best results were seen for those who consumed the most vegetables and fruits.
In a separate study, which was a reanalysis of data relating to the Framingham Heart Study, researchers also suggest that caffeine consumption, roughly one cup per week, might also play a big role in helping to reduce the risk of heart failure; up to at least a 7 percent reduced risk.
Researchers included over 15,000 participants in the diet study and they had their diet and health monitored over a period of several years (4 years).
They studied 5 different diet types broken down into the categories seen below.
And of those various diets, they found that for the participants who had been following a plant-based diet that they were the ones who showed the strongest association in a reduced risk for heart failure.
Aside from the roughly 7 percent reduced risk of heart failure connected with the caffeine consumption,from the other study as well, the results also suggest that the caffeine could contribute to a roughly 8 percent reduction when it comes to the risk of having a stroke. Though, researchers still say that more investigation is still needed in this area, before they can better understand the connection between caffeine consumption and health.
One of the biggest food trends of 2018 is expected to be the plant-based food trend that continues to grow worldwide.
Generation Z is being largely credited with pushing the trend toward plant-based food alternatives and the global sales of plant-based meat alone are expected to grow to over $5 billion by 2020. By the same year, it's estimated that those consumers considered a part of Generation Z, will make up roughly 40 percent of all consumers in the US.
Based on the current trend, it's likely we'll start to see many more plant-based food alternatives come to the market in the near future.

My experience says plant based diet is the way to go, espcially the wild growing kinds. Do a lot of foraging and juicing here in Gothenburg, Sweden and it really boosts my energy levels! :)
So that's Mcdonalds vs fish and chips, vs lollies, vs beer, vs salad.

What the f*ck kind of study was that? Of course plant based was the "best" because it was the only whole food diet. The other four weren't diets, they were "eat what the hell kind of rubbish you like". I don't believe it was any kind of accident they didn't include Paleo, or any other whole food diet.

I am a vegan. Though I am not perfect and I can attest to the benefits of a plant-based diet. I had ulcerative colitis and it was going vegan that saved me. It was a miracle. I had to write about it. Great one.

A plant based diet not only could reduce heart risk failures, but can do so much more for our health. Eating raw, unprocessed foods it has amazing benefits for our mental health as well. Vegetables are very easy to digest and the body doesn't spend that much time trying to decompose them and of course they don't contain "bad" fats, so there's no fat that can be deposited on organs. (heart) ❤
Cooked vegetables can be easy to digest, but raw are often hard to digest.
I moving to vegan. I am 90% there so not doing too badly
Although this was an observational study the results were very important, they showed that a diet where foods from green plants, fruits, whole grains and fish are used and where processed meats, saturated fats, trans fats, refined carbohydrates and sugar-rich foods are restricted, managed to prevent the development of heart failure. I congratulate you for this post, because as I always say "prevention is the key"
I think most things in moderation are good. I have known this for a while about fruits and veggies. I tend to think a bigger concern is minerals and vitamins. A century or more ago we used to dump our ashes from the wood burning stoves on our gardens and we were able to get out 90 minerals an vitamins. Today we get few. Our pets get a better diet them many people do. Dr. Joe Wallach has done much research on this and has a video out called 'Dead Doctors Don't Lie'. Amen! I do think so and I've seen many more studies supporting plant based diet over all other type of diets.
I have been total carnivore - meat water and coffee, mostly pasture raised beef seared in butter, burned a little and Blue on the inside, for 4 months. No scurvy and absolutely kicking ass on my SUP 6km ocean paddles, my blood pressure is 104/61 after 3 years on a high fat diet. I dont eat any plants at all anymore. Happy to answer any questions about Metobolic theory and why burning fat creates less oxidative stress and why macrophages can actually function in a low carb. Environment. Assumption is a dangerous thing when it has us move in the opposite direction of nature.

Totally agree, people need to eat more of a plant based diet and less garbage. The only issue I see along with people who are strictly vegan and eat no meats is that most of them don't even realize they are deficient in B vitamins and a few others. I'm not saying people need to overdose on meat, because most folks over-do it, however balance is everything in life, and YES people absolutely need to start eating more of the foods (i.e plant based foods) that God put on this earth for us to eat. This reminded me of a great documentary "Forks Over Knives" I HIGHLY recommend to everyone here - touches on the same premise! great post, and thanks for this!
I am Portuguese as such mediterranean diet is my thing. And from the health point of view i think is nice due to its variety of food that it was!
I can see that most of the "other' diets include processed food and/or carbs (including alcohol). I do eat a lot of veggies, few fruits, no legumes and lots of meat... and my blood work is stellar.
That is definitely a good study which might help the general population in protecting their heart.

But I am vegan and sins I switch to plant base meals I was getting fitter and feeling always good & allot of energie! raw vegan is also super good but its not for everyone because its hard if you don't like eating lots of veggies and fruits!
I will always recommend everyone to go on a plant base meal (don't like the word dieet because I eat allot)

oh I could go on about this but I'm going to point this out: no diet is perfect. There are always trade offs. Just be mindful of what your priorities are and stick with the diet that allows realization of your priorities the best.
