Food Security

One of the concepts that I teach is food security. What I am finding is that, most people don’t seem to understand what that really means.
Food security is not just about having access to a grocery store. It’s not just about people demanding that food be labeled so they can make a choice as to whether or not they buy GMO vs standard vs organic.
Food security is truly about the ability to provide safe, stable, and abundant food for yourself at all times. It’s not difficult, nor is it impossible just because you don’t have land.
I was raised with skills that are considered unique by today’s standards but, were actually the STANDARD in my parents generation.
The ability to grow your own food, to provide for yourself and your family is not difficult. It’s a matter of “what do you consider a priority”?
When you grow your own food you know EXACTLY what is and is not in it because you were there every step of the way! 🤗

Great point. Sometimes you have to take your budget into account too. We want a great variety in our diet. We do buy some organics, for the dirty dozen. But to stay in budget and also get great variety, we buy traditional grown food much of the time.

I will be making another post on how to grow from your balcony later today.
Thank you for your reply! I love to hear people’s thoughts.
