So we now have a non-invasive test which a person can use to screen for colon cancer which can detect colon cancer at a rate of over 8 out of 10. In my opinion this is a big advance considering colonoscopy is invasive and costs more but at the same time colonoscopy is still considered the most thorough (gold standard) way to screen for colon cancer.
M2-PK, as measured in feces, is a potential tumor marker for colorectal cancer. When measured in feces with a cutoff value of 4 U/ml, its sensitivity has been estimated to be 85% (with a 95% confidence interval of 65 to 96%) for colon cancer and 56% (confidence interval 41–74%) for rectal cancer.[1] Its specificity is 95%.[2]
The M2-PK test is not dependent on occult blood (ELISA method), so it can detect bleeding or non-bleeding bowel cancer and lso polyps with high sensitivity and high specificity with no false negative, but false positives may occur.[3]
If this test can be purchased over the counter then I intend to try it myself because an accuracy over 80% is considered very good for any kind of test and especially for a biomarker.
Thats a high sensitivity..but what a coincidence! . just posted myself about colon carcinoma..

Great health topic nice info.
Not a topic people usually discuss but definitely should! At least have this conversation with your physician.
somthing very informative. we all should know every type of new and tested test which being carried out to detect cancer. Thanks for posting this
That's a huge percentage that could decent it , loving your daily research
good pos @dana-edwards
Fanx for sharing@dana-edwards
Kudos...
great info @dana-edwards thanks for sharing
hope you can visit my blog ;)
tan necesario en este tiempo en donde prolifera este tipo de cáncer, y a la vez práctico por no ser invasivo
This is awesome news for me, especially since I just turned 40 and getting to the age when I would need a colonoscopy done. Hopefully they can figure out a way to do the tact test and the biopsy for prostate cancer non invasive too. Prostate Cancer is probably the biggest threat of them all for most men.
Glad I found your post @dana-edwards...with a family history of colon cancer and a personal history of chronic IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) any and all advances in testing are cause for a happy dance! Upgoated, Resheeped and Followed...(sorry @teamaustralia jargon, we're all addicted!)

Hi @dana-edwards,
Congratulations! You have been chosen to appear on another amazing edition of "Who to Follow Daily". Thank you for adding so much value to the Steemit community. Steem on!
That is great. There is a great research effort in the last years at discovering new markers for cancer that do not require invasive techniques. This is important because current techniques are only available to people with high risk for some specific cancer types. Early diagnosis is the most powerful weapon against cancer.
