Matcha is green tea leaf picked 1 month later on average, compared to normal green tea, and then dried crushed and powdered so thin, customarily with a stone by a monk a long long time ago. This powder is then whisked in slightly cooler than boiling water, with a bamboo bristle whisk made of hundreds of tiny toothpick sized bristles. These are hand made in Asia (: the Matcha is used as a sacrament prior to monk meditation. It is said to promote higher thinking. I believe that is what they use it for. Scientifically, matcha has huge amount of L theanine, a brain amino acid that all those smart pill companies use in their really expensive pills. Matcha is also a whole food and has hearty doses of many vitamins and minerals. Also more caffeine than coffee if you get the good matcha. I advise you start with a half dose of matcha and with some light food in your stomach. It took me weeks to work up to be able to drink matcha right in the morning with no food!
