5 THINGS EVERY HOUSEHOLD NEEDS
In my home we have a few “must haves” that I believe every household should have readily available. The first, every person must be adjusted every week. This is to support health and wellness through the nervous system. The various items listed below are for many different (typically emergency purposes unless stated) Click the picture to buy, and read below to find out how I use them! (Note: consult your physician before taking supplements and remedies!)
Activated Charcoal
Activated charcoal is a ancient remedy for so many things. It works as a powerful detoxifier, and therefore has a wide variety of uses. Activated charcoal is my first go-to for nausea and upset stomachs. From motion sickness to food poisoning, activated charcoal can be ingested to help calm your stomach. My only warning here is to not take too much, as that can lead to constipation. Be sure to drink plenty of water with it. Reason number two is its ability to clean/whiten your teeth. Simply brush with it or use it as a toothpaste. My last reason is emergency water filtration. The hint of prepper in me is always looking for that “when in a pinch” item to use for basic survival and activated charcoal is just that. These are just a few reason why I always have activated charcoal in my house.
Colloidal Silver
For wounds, acne, rashes, stings, or itches I like the gel version
I only found out about this amazing product a few years ago, and I have benefited greatly since having it in my house. Many of you know it is a antibacterial liquid. Being antibacterial, it is a more natural alternative to a pharmaceutical antibiotic (these wreck havick on the gut). Simply swallow the recommended amount a few times a day when you are sick, and you will be over it before you know it. Colloidal silver also comes in a spay and in a gel. These take advantage of the anti-inflammatory properties of colloidal silver. I have used the spray for sore throats, bug bites, rashes, and sunburns. It works incredibly fast and is a great alternative for eczema, allergies, hives, acne, and even pink eye. This is also a must have product for camping and hiking to help relieve the itch, inflammation, and pain from sunburn and bug bites!
Hydrogen peroxide
I remember using this as a kid whenever I got a scrape or had water stuck in my ear. While I am not falling on gravel and tend not to have water stuck in my ear much anymore, we still have it in the house for a few other reasons. It is a very powerful antiseptic, anti fungal, and anti parasitic. From athletes foot to sub-dermal skin mites, rub a small amount on a few times throughout the day. It can also be used to sterilize and clean various household problems such as mold and mildew to cutting boards, fruits and veggies, and getting that stink out of the refrigerator.
Coconut oil
Coconut oil has received a ton of press within the last few years, and for good reason. If there was such thing as a “cure-all,” coconut oil gets pretty close. It is a healthy alternative to cooking oils such as canola or vegetable oils. It is great for eczema and moisturizing skin (and free of all those chemicals in traditional lotions). It also has a important nutritional component most people overlook-MCT’s (medium chain triglycerides). These are metabolized differently and more efficiently as to provide energy for the brain! Finally, a method called oil pulling I use for dental hygiene utilizes coconut oil. Put simply, coconut oil draws out the toxins and cleans out cavities making actually possible to avoid fillings and root canals if done frequently and for the appropriate amount of time. Coconut oil is definitely worth its weight in gold! (Despite popular write-ups like this one (http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2017/06/19/coconut-oil-unhealthy_n_17210200.html)
Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)
Finally, we come to apple cider vinegar. As a chiropractor, I get a lot of patients experience heartburn, acid reflux, and stomach aches. Most people think these problems originate from too much stomach acid when in reality, the problem is often to much. You can do a simple test using apple cider vinegar to help you figure out your problem by doing the following: when experiencing symptoms take a spoonful of ACV. If the symptoms resolve shortly you know it is not enough acid and taking ACV is your solution. If, for some reason, symptoms worsen (5-10% of the time) have a spoonful of baking soda in water to take. This indicates too much stomach acid, and baking soda in water is your answer. ACV is also great for the skin helping with acne and over all inflammation. ACV can also work as a detoxifier for the liver (helping with blood sugars), promote healthy gut function (supports the immune system), and aid in muscle recovery after a workout. It is also easy to include in your diet as a salad dressing, mixed with smoothies, or simply taken straight.
Summary
Each of these products have numerous uses and are my go to for almost any and all illness, ache, pain, or discomfort. I welcome your input and hope it has been useful information!
