Good day to you dear steemians <3
Today i wanted to share with you some knowledge on added sugar and how it effects us, so lets begin.
Introduction and what is sugar:
Averge american consumes 66 POUNDS of sugar every year, Soda and sports drinks are the largest source of added sugar in the american diet. Added sugar doesn't just make us fat it can also make us really sick. Mainly liver disease, diabetes and hearth diseases.
Some people only connect sugar to obesity, altrough sugar can actually make you really sick even without making you fat! So don't take your weight as a measure of your health condition please! :)
Another thing is that in this post don't appeals only to people that drink 19 cans of coke. It appeals to everyone that reads this post.
White Sugar like this:
Has sucrose in it. Sucrose is made up from glucoze and fructose. The most problematic is fructose, we can say that it's even toxic to our body. So glucoze we kind of digest absorb and our body use it. Fructose in the other hand is digested, absorbed and processed slowly by the liver. So all the sugar that we eat, half of it goes to the liver, but it can't process it so fast. So if our liver get overwhelmed it starts transformating this sugar into fat, so the liver becomes fatty. Fatty livers is one of the components of the diseases i will talk about.
Liquid sugar:
Liquid sugar such as soda, energy drinks sport drinks and all this "fruit drinks" without fruits... Are representing 36% of the added sugar we consume. Researches suggest that our bodies process this type of sugar different than the sugar in foods especially the ones containing fiber. For example eating an apple, could get us 18 grams of sugar but it's packed in one-fifth of our daily requirement of fiber. Our bodies takes their time to digest that fiber and thanks to that this sugar is slowly released into the blood stream giving us stable sourbe of energy.
But sugar drinks, don't contain that fiber and the journey from digesting to blood streams happens really quick and our organs are overwhelmed by it. Causing blood rush, diabetes, hearth disease and liver disease.
4 major chronic diseases that are consequences of sugar intake:
- chronic periodontal disease, this one makes you lose your teeths. It makes eating fresh vegetables and fruits much harded for example. (it's like never ending circle because you can't kinda eat healthy things lol)
- cardiovascular disease, which means hearth disease and stroke. There is a big relation before high sugar intakes and this diseases.
- type 2 diabetes - Really horrible disease related to blindness, amputations, kidney failures and many more.
- liver diseases and liver failure.
Sugar hidden in 74% of package foods.
Many of us think that added suggar is mainly found in all type of cookies, cakes any many other things but it's not so simple. Many foods that are promoted as "natural" and "healthy"
contains added sugar as well under different name.

I see you are already making good money here and you only joined a few weeks ago. Nice to see people getting succesful.
Yes! Seems like it :) I'm happy for both because i'm not only making money but seems like people getting something useful out of this! :)
Yep, I can totally relate to that. At first I was not educated, thus I struggled with my cutting phase. Later I found out that the biggest rival for your fitness goals is SUGAR. Thus by limiting my sugar intake and proper nutrition I was able to drop around 22 lbs. It's good that people are being educated now-a-days. Keep up the good work. Looking forward for your post. :)
Kindly check out my blog @rahul516. I write fitness stuff. Hope you'll like it.

Thank you, that's great to hear! Keep up good work and stay healthy!
I will check out for sure! :)
Great post to raise awareness of hidden sugar and it's effects. Upvoted!
Tank you! I hope people can learn from it and maybe make decisions for their good. :)
Good post, my wife is diabetic sadly but hopefully things will get better.
I hope she gets better!
Some people may have hard time cutting sugar because it's almost like addiction, or even is.
I wish her and you the best :)
It definitely is an addiction. Thank you!
There is no information about how to replace it. Try using xylitol or erythritol. :)
Some time ago i used xylitol but now i honestly don't even feel like i need to replace it probably my taste changed as well after eating no added sugar.
Maybe some people can use that thanks! :)
Great post!
A few years ago I made some effort and I managed to stop eating sugar at all. I spent most of my time eating fruits and refusing to eat any kind of sugar related food.
The only thing I can say is that for around 3 months, I felt amazing. I was exercising, I was eating healthy, I felt healthy, and I slept better.
I regret stopping because of too many things to do. I was so busy for a while, that I just had to stop eating healthy and stop exercising, in order to focus only on my work. I ate everything that I had close to me, and everything started going bad. My diet started being horrible once again.
I may start eating healthy again soon, and try to go back to the diet I had a few years ago. I miss that kind of life and the constant energy I had.
Thanks for the article, thanks for the info, and best of luck!
You should definitely! For your own good! Maybe soon i will post about my diet which is healthy and meals are quick to make! :)
Thank you very much for your reply, and I'll wait for the article with your diet, maybe that will help me! :)
I try to avoid sugar the best that I can....but I do have a sweet tooth...@babettxx
I love "sweet food" as well but mine doesn't contain sugar anymore :) I eat food even cookies and cakes but without added sugar and it still tastes great :) I also think that over time your taste is changing so as i LOVED every kind of sweets now i can't even stand them.
You might try to bake stuff it's fun and you don't have to use sugar for it! I will be posting more recipes for snack/cakes/food without sugar soon so maybe i can help! :)
really useful info, great article. keep it up
Thank you! i hope it helps! :)
Diabetic and SUGAR
great article
Thank you! :)
Sugar is so bad that the body makes it the baseline in the production of energy.......even stores energy in the form of this bad sugar
Get it from fruits as much as possible! The added source of fibre is what makes it healthy!
Exactly. :)
As i wrote in the article that you probably read that added sugar is the bad guy here, glucoze in food that comes natural also comes with fiber which wont harm you in normal amounts. Carbohydrates are basic of our energy but it shouldn't come from added sugar.
amazing article, I will not add much sugar to my drink
Start making more fruit smoothies and shakes at home if you want. Thats my sugary drinks I try to stick with :)
That's great! But you should watch out for added sugar in packed food as well. Sometimes we are not aware how much we consume. Daily dose of added sugar was estimated:
6 teaspoon for women
9 teaspoon for men
All though i avoid it maybe to 1 or 1,5 grams if not less, sometimes i just eat bread that has really low amounts.
ok i will try
Ive cut out artificial sugars as much as possible. It's a shame that so many foods contain it unnecessarily just for 'taste' and cheaper production value. Im all about fruits as a source for sugar as the fibre alongside it is the bonus
I was shocked that even pasta had it. Even after i cut out added sugar it was still hiding in such products. But i believe i finally got to the point where i consume no more than 1gr per day :)
Thats amazing!!!! I better check my wholewheat pasta too now aha
Very good Post..! Sugar has always been the worst and always will be..! This should be read by anyone whos struggling in life with weight...A+
