At some point in our life, we have all heard about the idea of “Electronic Cigarettes”, whether it was from a family member, friend or even stumbled upon whilst browsing online.
Maybe you have heard various perspectives on the topic, and experienced that there is quite a stigma shrouded around this new age of smoking.
Most of the community who use E-Cigarettes refer to it as “Vaping”, this is because most conventional devices use a liquid which when heated, not burnt, causes the production of vapour.
If you have ever wondered about the benefits, possibilities and even the negatives associated with this technology and would like to learn more about it from a first hand perspective, please continue.
Is vaping safer than smoking?
RECENT studies have shown that a person switching from cigarettes to vaping has a significant improvement towards the state of their overall health and respiratory system i.e Lung and airway function.
It has been known for many years that traditional methods of smoking cigarettes have a diverse impact based on the amount chemicals and tar inhaled from the tobacco and paper (and any other substance) when combusted.
Vaping may be the answer to this as a healthier alternative that cuts out all of the nasty chemicals, whilst still being able to dose yourself the required amount of nicotine.
Is vape liquid safe?
The liquid used by electronic devices for vaping, commonly refered to as “e-liquid” or “vape juice”, is made up of a standard base of components that have strict regulations and often food quality standards attached to their production.
The base ingredients of any liquid used for vaping contains the following:
Vegetable Glycerine -
“VG”, A natural product often made from coconut, soy or palm oil.
Propylene Glycol -
“PG”, A synthetic substance often found in food and beverages, belonging to the alchohol family on an atomic level.
Artificial Flavouring -
Almost all liquids you can purchase are flavoured, this is because added to the mix of VG & PG are a more often than not secret blend of artificial flavourings. Yes the same type that is found in food and drink all over the world, quality assured and regulated to strict standards for human consumption.
These when combined with the base liquid allow for wonderful tastes and aromas whilst vaping, making quite the pleasurable and fulfilling experience that reaches a whole new level above smoking cigarettes!
Nicotine (optional) -
Whether you have an addiction, recreational interest or an opposing mindset towards nicotine, vaping easily accomodates for this.
As nicotine is often an optional additive to liquids, or sold as a seperate product, it allows for users to control their intake and gives oppurtunity for people wanting to slowly ween off of the substance in little amounts.
Let it be known that using nicotine based liquid in a vape is a healthier alternative to smoking. There is tons of research that also highlights the benefits of nicotine and helps shine light into the black cloud that has blocked unbiased opinions, caused by smoking related illnesses.
Pros VS Cons
Now that you have a basic understanding of what vaping is, let’s jump into the benefits and negatives that I have personally experienced as an everyday vaper, and ex smoker:
Negatives -
- This is a new technology, there has been no prolonged research that indicates long term affects as a definite, however being said there is a positive outlook based on studies to date.
- Depending on where you live, it may be illegal to purchase liquid containing nicotine, such as in Australia (to an extent).
- Hard to find an entry point and make the transit from smoking to vaping (FYI YouTube has tons of material for beginners!).
- Again, this is a new technology and vaping in public places and around people who are unsure can cause wariness, I have experienced this on many occasions.
- Battery life, yes these devices run in batteries, and being caught somewhere without a charger is on par with running our of gas for your lighter.
- Starting off can be quite an expensive investment, but there is many cheap alternatives on the market
Those are just a few of the negatives associated with vaping, now we can look at some of the positives:
Positives -
- Healthier and tastier than any cigarette you could ever inhale!
- Ability to DIY all of your liquids and save ALOT of money, personally I save 95% of my prior tobacco budget just from switching to this! Not only that but I can craft and adjust my own recipes so I know exactly what is going into my body.
- Great community and online presence of others who engage and love this hobby.
- Thousands of brands and products available to really customise and tailor your style.
- Makes for a great conversation piece, for those who are interested.
- THE FLAVOURS, absolutely the best thing about vaping is the exponential amount of combinations available, and 98% of them are delicious.
Conclusion
Wrapping things up, I’d really recommend that after reading this article, go on YouTube and search more on the benefits and negatives of this new amazing technology, check out some of the great supporters and content creators on there. If you are seriously considering getting involved or looking for a way to quit smoking cigarettes, this might just be the answer you’re looking for!
