Just One Night

After just one night of sleep deprivation it causes symptoms of a mild concussion. Not to mention chemically altering the DNA within your clock genes as well as a loss of brain tissue. On top of all that, analysts estimate in just the United States alone there is a little over $400 billion dollars a year is lost due to poor performance and loss of work.

Who am I?

Hello Ateazi here, I am a health enthusiast as well as an avid gamer from time to time, today we are going to talk about sleep deprivation and what it does to the mind and body. Let's get down to the facts!

Fighting PTSD and Depression

Sleep has capabilities of surpressing negative thoughts and memories, which plays a major role in PTSD and depression. However, if the memories are solidified it makes it harder for sleeping to surpress them and will typically stay longer than they typically would if you were well rested.

Many toxins, including those found in AD (Alzheimer's Disease), are cleared during sleep. Another reason sleep is vital.

--------------------------------------------------

Toxins accumulate during the day, including β-amyloid which are precursors of AD, during sleep these toxins are cleared. Sleeping helps our cognitive function, which it is affected while sleep deprived. This makes our attention span and working memory a lot poorer.

Increased Risk of Cancers Amongst Other Diseases

Sleep deprivation increases the risk of colorectal adenomas, which leads to colon cancer over time if not treated. As well as sleep apnea and leading to aggressive breast cancer. Not to mention your risk of developing diabetes is increased, amongst other chronic diseases. Links between obesity has also been found in studies due to sleep deprivation

Your Risk of Heart Disease Increases While Sleep Deprived

Chronic sleep deprivation also includes high blood-pressure, as well as Atherosclerosis (Chlorestoral Clogged Arteries), heart failure, a study done by Warwick Medical School concluded that those with inadequate sleep were tied to heart attacks as well as cardiovascular disorders and strokes. In some cases death, your risk for death increases when you are sleep deprived for a enlongated time period.

In Conclusion

Sleep is extremely vital in order to prevent many issues within our bodies. As well as making it a way for us to operate porperly in society. I hope everyone learned something from this as I know I have.

Sort:

I have been sleep deprived for the last few days, not fun! Will sleep good tonight and tomorrow though :)

I know what that is like, I am glad to hear that. It should help a lot :)

I am glad this helped and I am happy to hear from you as well!

This is honestly an eye-opener and I'll definitely be catching up on some lost sleep because of you. Thanks!

I am glad you learned something! Hopefully, you'll feel better when you do.

Thank you for posting!

Nice article. I've read a couple things before about how important sleep is. I heard a study they did where people were only deprived a small amount and despite participants saying there was no difference in performance there was a huge difference in cognitive ability. You see the record for longest time awake? I had to look it up again. It's insane. I won't spoil in the comments lol
