Olive oil
The olive is a species of small tree in the family Oleaceae. The olive is of major agricultural importance in the Mediterranean region as the source of olive oil.It is considered main component of Mediterranean diet as it contains high amount of fats named as antioxidants.
Olive is obtained by pressing whole olives. it is mostly used for cooking, frying food and for dressing salaad.It is also used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals,fuels and in traditional home lamps.
Benefits of Olive Oil
The predominant fatty acid in olive oil is a monounsaturated fat called oleic acid, making up 73% of the total oil content.Studies proved that oleic acid reduces inflammation and it has beneficial effects on genes linked to cancer.
Apart from beneficial of fatty acids in Olive, it contains rich amount of vitamin E and K.But it also contains high amount of antioxidants fats which fight with the inflammation and also lower down the risks of chronic diseases.
Consuming olive oil is not associated with weight gain and obesity.Eating excessive amounts of fat causes weight gain.But one three-year study in 187 participants found that a diet rich in olive oil was linked in increases of antioxidants as well as weight loss.
Some studies have shown that Mediterranean countries have less incidence of coronary heart disease because their inhabitants eats a great deal of olive oil.
Islamic point of view
The Messenger of Allah,peace and blessings of Allah be upon him said:
"Eat (olive) oil and apply it to your skin ,for it comes from a blessed tree." (Ahmad and Al-Tirmidhi: Saheeh)
It is a tree with Allah mentioned in the Quran.
