Hi guys!
Today’s video is just a tiny little example of how easy it is to consume a whoooole lot of sugar throughout your day - without even really trying!
I just grabbed a couple of examples of commonplace items at the store that have a considerable amount of sugar in them, that many of us eat or drink on a daily basis.
I also wanted to illustrate for you guys (by using granulated sugar) just how much sugar it adds up to be, because it’s much easier to conceptualize your intake when you’re looking at a cup full of all the sugar that’s hiding in some of your favorite foods!
It’s not just the desserts that are to blame here, either - lots of seemingly “savory” or non-dessert items contain TONS of sugar! Sometimes you’ve just gotta look for it!
If you ever want to try this experiment for yourself to get a visual representation of your daily sugar intake, here’s the easiest way you can do it at home:
Keep a diary of all the food you eat in a day (or week)
Log everything in MyFitnessPal or other macro-tracking app
Add up all of the grams of sugar and divide by 4 to get the sugar equivalent in teaspoons
Measure it out and prepare to be surprised!
Once you see how much sugar is actually making its way into your body, it might motivate you to cut down on (or at least be more aware of) the amount of sugar you consume each day.
Keep in mind that tons of packaged and processed foods, treats/cookies/cakes/candy (obviously), baked goods, salad dressings, condiments/sauces, and more can all contain lots of sugar because, let’s face it, sugar tastes delicious and we all love delicious food!
If anything, I hope you take away a little awareness from this video - start making a habit of reading your nutrition labels and taking note of the big picture. Be mindful of all the ingredients you’re eating because after all, our bodies are special and deserve to be treated with care and respect :) Plus, we only get one body so we might as well make it last!
Thanks SO much for watching, everybody! Please keep the feedback coming - I so appreciate all of your input, support, and love! :)

For my sugar fix, I like to eat fruit and dark chocolate. I try to limit my son's intake of sugar too, but sometimes with children, you gotta put cheese on the broccoli. But definitely limiting it and exercising is key.
.
this is super real. When you cut sugar out of your diet you can experience some wildly positive health effects.
Glad you liked it! And totally - isn't it crazy how much of an effect it has? Not just on your weight, but on sleep, skin, energy, etc...
DAMN !!!! thats a lot of sugar...this is scary
Haha right?! And that was just three products - super easy to eat way more sugar than this throughout the course of a day! Yikes!!
Sugar is more addictive than drugs. Well it is the most dangerous drug. I stopped drinking my coffee and tea with sugar. I stopped adding it as an ingredient to my desserts. I replaced sugar with honey and fruit. I got used to it and dont feel any difference anymore :)
So true, sugar is indeed very addictive. I'm happy that you were able to get off it👍🏾
I agree with you both about its addictive nature... It's scary! I have an insane sweet tooth, and it's really easy for me to get out of control - I don't struggle with any other "substances" but this one has been tough to wrangle for me and took a lot of practice! Friendly word of advice about honey and fruit - although they are more natural and less processed than table sugar, they still contain (or are made of) sugars so they're worth keeping an eye on as well :) Cheers for making some badass progress, girl - proud of you!!!
I try to keep it under 30 grams of sugar a day but I like snickers bars 😂😂😂
That's really difficult, I also love Snickers bars especially the ice cream snicker bar 🤣🤣
I believe in moderation, if you're trying to lose weight or just improve your health, you can try staying away from sugar let's say for 7 days. If it works then increase it to 14 and so forth and so on.
Before you know it you may last a few months without sugar 👍🏾😊
Ha! Me too, only I prefer Mars bars!
I agree with @gflfitness (as usual) - moderation is a great technique, and the longer you stay off sugar the easier it will become to live without it 😊
I do try to actively avoid sugar but it always seems to find me! As much as I run it catches up lol it’s an endless game of cat and mouse
Ha! I absolutely know the feeling!!! You can do it though - the longer you stay away from it, the easier it will become. Hang in there, the first few days are the worst! Withdrawals are real haha!!!
Very valuable information 👍🏾 the general populace need to be educated on the dangers of sugar.
Oh by the way I like the intro to your video very relaxing and full of Caribbean energy 😎
Oh yay! Thank you, and so glad you enjoyed it! 😎
I wish I was in the Caribbean right now haha...
I recently had this very conversation with my girlfriend and she gave me the yea I know response (typical) lol. Then the next morning she went out and got us some coffee from Dunkin Donuts. I asked for a black ice coffee and she got something fancy.
I saw the opportunity to use her drink to open her eyes to how much sugar she was consuming. She pulled up their menu and started doing the math. Her coffee had 60+ grams of sugar in it! She was shocked and immediately understood how easy it was to over consume sugar.
Drink black coffee people. I promise it's not that bad.
Haha it's cool that you guys are working together on learning about health and nutrition... It always helps to have a partner in the journey! Isn't it wild to look at the nutrition info for places like that online? I love it and hate it - it's fascinating, but scary!!! :)
When I don’t have sugary items for a few days, I don’t crave it.
But when I might cheat, and have that one drink or chocolate bar, holy smokes.
The cravings are crazy.
It really shows you how sugar has a huge effect.
You’re also right, it may seem like a small amount, but by the end of the week, you’ve consumed a 1kg bag of sugar.
I totally agree! I can go downhill FAST if I indulge... The cravings (and withdrawals) are insane, I can't believe it happens that way but it totally does!
Here's to beating the addiction together haha! :)
Thanks for your comment!
Good stuff thanks for sharing
No prob! Glad you liked it!
Amazing @annemariemay this is the examples. I want to resteem you this post. Good work.
Thank you so much @top5everywhere!! I really appreciate it!
I appreciate your best work..
I know just what you're talking about. I've been diagnosed with Bladder Cancer and I have to read everything now before buying it....
The Cancer thrives off the sugar. Since I've been paying attention, I've found sugar in things that shouldn't have sugar....They have sugar in Milk for god sake's.....Check out some of your Peanut-Butter it has sugar. Now why would they put sugar in these items.....To make us addicted to the stuff, I think.....When you start paying attention you start to see a pattern.....One that the agenda is not in our favor.....Just watch the patterns as they emerge. Most our food is tainted, even the so called Health food now is tainted, Our Skies are sprayed with Chemical and the Water we buy in the store doesn't even have a PH of 7.0. Since having the cancer, I have tested most of Walmart's water, here in Southern Oregon. And the PH in most of Walmart's water is at 6.5.
Yes! I agree! Check everything....Read everything! There is poison in our food and it's called Sugar!
Great Post By the way! Thanks!
Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear that!
It's true, sugar "hides" everywhere. Good for you for taking charge of your nutrition - my aunt is in remission after battling advanced breast cancer, and her nutrition was a huge part of her recovery.
I'll be thinking of you and sending lots of good wishes for a full and speedy recovery.
Thanks for your support, my friend! Warmest vibes coming your way!
Did You Know ?
Sugar is more addictive than drugs
I've heard that, yes! I think it fires the same areas of the brain... Isn't that crazy?
