What is CHALAZION?
Chalazion is a benign, granulamatious lesion analogous to a sebaceous cyst developing on the EYElid,formed by distention of a meibomian gland with secretion.
- CHALAZION as a chronic sterile residing within the eyelids originated from an obstructed miebomian gland of the tarsal plates. If acute secondary infection takes place, the lesion is known as hordeolum. They are typically located in the middle of the eyelids red and non painful.
Risk Factors?
1) Blepharitis. 2) rosacea. 3) prior chalazion. 4) uncorrected refractive errors. 5) uncontrolled diabetes. 6) long hours of work on computers .
Small, asymptomatic chalazion can be left untreated conservative treatment including lid massage, warm compression and steroid/antibiotics eye drops can also be used.
Surgical treatment maybe considered in case of unresolved chalazion or large and symptomatic chalazion. Incision and curetage in treatment of choice.
