A Life Threatening Adventure

Yo, Hivers! It's Kei as in 🔑 and I would like to share my experience about my first ever life threatening adventure, yet a memorable and worth it one. It happened last November 21, 2021 and it was on Nagpatong Rock Formation and Tungtong Falls in Tanay, Rizal.

Nagpatong Rock is a 660 MASL/3.30 KM and it is made up of two huge limestone cliffs that faces each other. These structures appear to be built up of layers of massive 
rock blocks stacked on top of one another, hence the name Nagpatong, which comes 
from the Tagalog word "patong", which means "to stack." However, only nature knows 
how these rock formations originated.

It was supposed to be an easy and fast trekking that would only last for approximately 2-3 hours, but unexpectedly it rained even before we could start trekking. Therefore, the 2-3 hours of expected trekking became approximately 5 hours before we could reach the summit.

We started registering and presenting our vaccination card around 5:30 AM and then began our trek around 6:00 AM. The rain also stopped around 6:30 AM. Therefore, it was really muddy and slippery which made our trekking so hard and dangerous, since there were many rocks to pass and some routes were narrow and uphill.

After the long trek, we waited our turn to climb to the top of Nagpatong Rock Formation around 9:00 AM and then started climbing around 9:50 AM. I felt really nervous and scared because the trail was really steep and slippery (just imagine climbing up 3.30 KM😵). Also, there were no safety harness or safety gear attached to us. But, there were ropes to hold and tour guides who are kind and encouraging that reassures us that we are safe because they will support us.

We finally arrived at the summit around 10:30 AM and I was beyond mesmerized and astonished to describe what I saw. I don't have a clear picture on the view that I saw, but here's some of our picture that was taken by the tour guides who are on the other side😉

After taking pictures, and when our eyes and hearts is contented with the memories that we will carry with our life as we go down. We started descending around 11:00 AM and started heading back to the main village around 2:00 PM, where we also ate our late lunch before going to Tungtong Falls.

Around 3:45 PM we started going to Tungtong Falls and by 4:00 we started trekking. While trekking it was not that slippery anymore, since it was already sunny late in the afternoon.

We started rappelling after the short trek and it took us almost 30 minutes to finally reach the falls. The trip to Tungtong falls was still life threatening, since while rappelling there were still no safety harness or safety gear attached to us and there were cliffs (just imagine what would happen, if I took a wrong step😨). Although, the tour guides were patient and still encouraging us that they got us. When we finally arrived at the falls the water was so cold yet refreshing.

Sadly, we cannot go deeper because the tour guide mentioned that it can be dangerous, since it's starting to get dark. Nevertheless, it was still another memorable experience that I know I will definitely cherish.
