The hatred review (spoilers)

The film started off ok with a background story, setting things up nicely to develop but then failed to deliver. It feels like the producers had a time limit or the writers were changed half way through the film.

I had to question a few times during the film whether it was a comedy or low budget film. The main part of the film that could have been big is what is shown in the trailer with the young girl telling the older girl “look under the bed”.

There’s a point in the film where two people have left a room trying to escape an entity and run downstairs and they try to hide behind a single seater sofa rather than out the house or in a room.

I feel the dad really didn’t have much reason to kill the daughter and the wife’s reaction to the husband having a possible heart attack was unusual. Did she know he killed the daughter? or just not like the fact her husband covered up their arguments when the officer asked about the whereabouts of the daughter?

Most of the girls staying in the house seemed to be killed too easily but when it comes to the main character they were given every opportunity to run or were just injured rather than killed like everyone else.

The main character discovers the entity/artefact draws its power from fear & hatred but instead of using this the two remaining characters tend to still show fear.

I had to question why Alice would guide one person to the amulet? Why weren’t the other characters worthy of getting this help?

Shouldn't the amulet that is built up on people's hatred and fear for so long be more powerful? I had to question why the amulet was sent for someone to look after even though he was trusted or part of the Nazis, what was the goal? Or use?

For all the excitement the trailer might have generated it does fall short on delivery near the end it feels like they were running out of money or time because the ending felt rushed.

I think the most this can get is a 2 star rating out of 5 if I rated out of 10 it might look worse for this film.

I can only think there was a small budget since there doesn’t seem to be much of a change in locations, the music really didn’t add to the thrill/scare factor and the main special fx are for an entity that rarely scares or shocks.

It’s worth a watch if you got the time, entertaining not scary but not to be considered amongst the top horrors. I’m not sure what category it fits into- horror comedy?
