The DAO and Ethereum community can now rest at ease that the Hard Fork has been successful.
What does this mean for the future?
It's still a topic of high debate whether or not the Hard Fork should have been done in the first place and what future implications it has on cryptocurrencies, one point of view which I share with many people is that The DAO was still young and this is a stepping stone in learning for everyone and I don't think a hard fork will ever be used again for a situation like this.
One positive outcome of the whole hack is it does go to show that the crypto communities are willing to work together in times of crisis, and people are able to debate and come to a consensus maturely. It shows the strength of blockchain technology, open transparency with no one pulling strings from behind the scenes. Unlike corporations or Governments decisions are made by everyone which is what the crypto communities have been striving for and this day will go down in history as an example of that. Though I could just be being optimistic some consider the hard fork itself a bigger threat then the initial hack to the dignity of cryptocurrency.
I am so glad that the Hardfork worked so smoothly. I know we still need some time to be 100% safe, but the are a lot of indicators (decreasing difficulty on the old chain) with a very good sign. Thanks goes to the ethereum foundation and one of the best communities in the cryptocurrency world.
I would be in the "some consider the hard fork itself a bigger threat then the initial hack" - but the community has voted. :)
