I'm new here and it's been pretty daunting to get caught up and acclimated with how Steemit works, and to be honest, seeing some of the shenanigans going on has been a little discouraging. However, its also very ENCOURAGING to see people like you trying to make it better and remedy these issues. I already voted for you as a witness. Keep up the good work amigo.
There is always some drama going on, such as life. There is a lot of good here though if you can ignore the noise.
I am not reading the comments. I have been sucked in to too many of these ridiculous back and forths and will not continue. I do want to say my piece.
@themarkymark cares for Steemit more than most. I only know him from his posts and from following this... "the conflict sent to destroy Steemit." Do not kid yourself... the token has hit all-time highs... but if this 'problem' is not solved... there are new lows to set as well (and I remember reading it was down at 7 cents for a time).
@themarkymark spent his new years eve trying to resolve this issue. He stuck his neck out knowing the consequences and did it anyway. He is still sticking his neck out... and the rewards may look good now, but could just as easily go down to zero before all is said and done.
This man is one who is not willing to let a place he loves die without at least a fight... and that is one of the reasons why he has my vote for witness.
The way I see it... @haejin and his followers are taking this conflict too personally and as such, seem to justify backlash. I do not agree with all of the tactics he has had to endure during this time... and for that I am sorry... I follow his work, and enjoy it. His work is good for the platform... Do I think he deserves to be paid $15000 / day? No. There are many people that do very well on a daily basis... and he very likely could sink down to the lowly levels of some of the mega whales who still post daily, and make $400 (according to the ticker).
The downvotes are not meant to hate or disrespect what he brings to the platform... he brings value to the platform... the downvotes (and upvotes for that matter) are merely meant to bring justice to the imperfect means of distributing rewards. There are many who are watching and sitting idly by hoping that steem doesn't go down the shitter... sitting idly by will send steem down the shitter.
I gave this post my 100% upvote... it might be up to 20 cents now! I gave this post and @themarkymark my support not because I dislike @haejin but because I love steemit and I want to see it flourish.
One day I hope to upvote one of @haejin's pieces... but as it stands I feel like he is getting more than enough. That means I hope that eventually everyone will see the light... this is NOT PERSONAL... this is about STEEMIT and keeping it a great place to write, read and hang out.
Thank you @themarkymark. You have my vote for witness... and if you become invisible on here... I will do what I can to help bring you back with my limited steempower and hopefully well thought out and presented perspective.
I upvoted this comment for visibility (and to cash in heavy because it seems to be all the rage right now).
Good to know
I don't get it. Witnesses are incharge of these kind pf problems? No support team of the site itself? Can someone explain that to me?
This site is meant to be self-policing.
There is a way to stop abuse if you understand that there is a fixed pool of money generated every day. You stop voting for the posts that are draining the pot, and you start voting for other posts.
The second part is the most important - the more people vote for other stuff, the smaller haejin's share will be. Sadly people stopped voting when teh changes to the curation algorithm were introduced.
I follow you plz follow me also,
Thank you so much
Well I think the main post, and the main idea presented in the comments negates this.
If you have the constant backing of just 1 whale, it doesn't matter if the community doesn't upvote his post.
It wouldn't matter if the community votes on other post, because a botnet, and fake accounts spamming one person will always win (especially with whales downvoted other post).
Blockchain technology is designed to be decentralized. There's no-one in charge of Steemit just like no one is in charge of any peer-to-peer network. Look it up. It's revolutionary.
Even if the site had support team, they could'nt possibly remove downvotes. Action of flagging / downvoting however morally right/wrong is a part of steem blockchain's protocol.
We've just received reports of New Steem city being attacked by swarms of killer bees...

Killa bees on the swarm!
I'm super confused. I don't understand what this is. Why is this post here? What is it? How is this helpful content. Can someone please help me understand what this is? I'm new to all this.. it seems like a dictatorship??
It's satire related to the on-going drama.
Why is this more offensive than all the "hot chick travel" blogs that make a million bucks a post?
If you mean @sweeetsssj, then she posts I think 1/day for around $400. This is $382 10+ times a day.
There is a big difference, and in this case is mostly just one voter. He is basically paying Haejin a salary, which is perfectly fine, do it somewhere else, don't do it in a shared reward pool that causes everyone else to suffer.
Well, she's the only one I see now, but there are/have been others. My point is just that there's a bunch of stuff making a killing on here that I think is of low quality or doesn't deserve what is being made. Honestly, like I said I just don't understand what the big deal is. You seem to be doing pretty well from just posting about him, who I've never heard of before seeing all your posts on the trending page.
No doubt, I report stuff on a daily basis, and much of it is just ignored. But nothing at the scale of what is going on now.

Stop fucking spamming.
That 100% flag should get his attention
I notice he's been spamming the same comment all over other threads too. He's been flagged and hidden everywhere. How does someone like that even get to rep 45?
He's a bot. He don't care. And his ruthless posting will outnumber your flags. Just a guess...
...and the whales dramas continues. Reminds me of MSM. Gonna stick to my minnow pond.
Wasn't this already in place?
lol
Don't you feel the attack on freedom of speech ? Like returning to the dark ole days .... Fear .... the Lords are comming.....
Maybe that why haejin didnt flag me.. :(
How's about a 1 post per day limit here on Steemit, would that help clean up the reward pool raping going on around here lately? 🐳
Nah, with the freedom of an open network you have to come up with creative solutions. Creating limitations goes against the idea of an open network.
True, true @artopium , and what do you suggest we do to fix the issue long-term?
I already posted this higher up on in the comments on this post but I'll post it again since it's getting cluttery around here. :)
My solution:
Create a type of curve, perhaps a bell curve, in which voting power increases to a cetain point but then begins to exonentially slow it's increase in power as an account gets closer and closer to "whale" status. This will take a large chunk of voting influence away from the "whale elite" and put it back into the "dolphin middle class" where it belongs.
Oh my, they will never go for this, because remember... 99% of those whales bought their way to the top.
Who is a "they" in a decentralized platform? I'm hoping Steem Inc., not Steemit.com, implements the changes in a hard fork. If Steemit.com doesn't want to implement the new version then I'm sure someone with an understanding of the problem will create a new site based on the new version and with time people will realize the benefits of moving to the new site. Then the "whales" of Steemit.com can give each other upvotes all day; We'll be somewhere else. ;)
Yeah, and the could build it on EOS too.
Invested their way to the top... Invested.
I guess you could say that too.
wow the FLAG Wars started and get really fu**ed ...

nice post Dear Friend
welcome development, this is to keep and attract the best.
I keep reading these posts about this haejin account, but I don’t understand a word :(
I wish I could so I would support you guys, but I’m not even sure what the issue has been - my english is not that good :)
I stumbled upon this post from the trending page, and do not quite follow this. Gone and read about some background, but still not able to catch up on the intention of this post. Can you explain a bit, what is the appeal to the community ?
This is what a man should do, you stood up for this and it should be highly appreciated atleast i do, its about making a change happen, This happened!
Your writing will be responsible for important change to Steemit.
All hail! All hail! All hail!
How do you fix this? This cannot happen! If Steem is going to change the world it cannot have a toxic community and it must be fine-tuned. Greed is to be expected with this many people of all different backgrounds on the platform; however, there needs to be a solution. Perhaps a council of moderators that are elected by the community that can resolve issues such as this one?
To fix this, you're going to have to remove Whales from the system. Alternatively, you're going to have to introduce moderation to the system.
The system is centralized right now (by whales), so you either turn it truly decentralized, or introduced a higher centralized force.
Or you trust in the Free Market and trust the other whales will take action, which costs them money, it must be noted.
Do you think the idea of a council of moderators trusted by the Steem community who would oversee such conflicts and step in would be a feasible idea? People are fueled by greed so I doubt other whales will take action as it would cost them money though I would like to be wrong. Morality can be corrupted by money and doing the right thing at a great cost puts a bad taste in people's mouth.
No.
I used to moderate a very large subreddit. Steemit lacks, but can add, tools that you need for effective moderation, though it'd take a while.
The problem is money. You'll have users who can say one cannot gain said value, or exercise their money-bought "rights." And said moderators will have to somehow resist acting on stuff that impacts them, and people will flock to them.
And if you elect them based on the voters' steem power, then you're not solving anything, because then the rich will appoint the people who are supposed to oversee them? Yeah, no.
good writing
Dear Friend
Your writing is absolutely fascinating to readers.
From today I will read you every day
sweared.
Steemit court?
We need community based validation. Human nature can not be changed. Animals will always resort to violence and retaliate when provoked. We need to develop solutions that force greedy people to play nice and share in order to be greedy.
The problem with a council of moderators is that they are people. We should try to avoid solving human nature problems with solutions that can be exposed by human nature.
so we need an AI, or we need redundancies that help mitigate conflicts
You need a better designed system that is flexible for different users but has clear bounds on undesirable behavior.
If you can do it, then it should be allowed.
That being said there are some corrective mechanisms built into Steem. Flags. They just don't work very well and require fallible humans to implement. This would suggest we need a more rigid change through code rather than placing our faith in human relations. The internet is filled with narcissistic greedy trolls who forget that they are human.
So, to answer your question: probably the 2nd, or a little bit of both.
"The internet is filled with narcissistic greedy trolls who forget that they are human."
The only way to stop this, is the Zuckerberg-ism of the internet. Get rid of anonymity completely, so people are held accountable. I don't like the idea, but man, the more and more I see the way people behave when they aren't accountable for their actions, sometimes I wonder.
Exactly
good comment, you have all the reason.
I said the same thing the other day . It is not haejins fault .. everywhere u have users and abusers no matter what sphere of life . In this instanace it is steemit , haejin and us the users of steemit . Haejin is either exploiting steemits obvious flaw or he is really trying like all ofnus to make some bucks , nevertheless it is steemit's problem to solve issues like this or if they do not , i guess it is on to the next more secure coin ?
what is this. this is not good.why he is doing this?
Cause he believes all of Steemit is his.
good idea
this is retaliation from haejin because tuck-fheman flagged him. I'm not his supporter but both he and tuck have been mine.
^ That. All this self-appointed hall monitor shit is for the birds. Unless someone is spamming/posting actual dangerous content (threats/kiddie porn/etc) just but out of people's business. In the flag wars no one wins... especially the followers of the whales who are doing the fighting.
Like getting a good post
I am very poor in steemit life
please follow & give me upvoted
Its a massive flag war between a few whales and the sock puppet accounts they have. Its a smokescreen as per usual. Yall really complaining about bread when we all have potential right now to become cryptonaires and yall goofing with this shit. LOL
You want the reward pool to be more equal ?
Curate more guys .. or just open a bot and follow some legends.
This will take from the reward pool and give to everybody.
All animals including humans will go for the easy food first rather than have to work for their meal.
Steemit accounts taking advantage of the rewards pool reminds me of the Yellow Stone Bears back in the late 1800 until 1970 when everyone fed them and they had free access to the garbage dumps. Once they closed down the dumps and didn't allow people to fed the bears many died because they didn't know how to forage for food. Let's not let steemit get that far! I think all organisms are opportunist and want that free lunch!

Thank you for that link, an interesting example of humans behaving like humans and bears behaving like . . . humans!

don't give your money to old Haejin, give it to me. Haejin is a virus
Dear Friend
your graphics is very excellent
After reading all the comments on this post , I think hightime to investigate more about haejin and what he wrote.
The only thing being worse than this flag war is people who try to get attention with writing posts about this flag war. (I don´t mean you personally, since I really like your other posts - but there are people out there who are totally unrelated and think they can get whale attention through this)
Great info
I do not like what @haejin is doing but he is not breaking any obvious rules. He didn't pull a Logan Paul, if you get what I mean.
If Steemit adds limitations, it becomes the same crap it tried to avoid. If it does nothing, it becomes another example of how any system can be exploited regardless of intentions or regulations.
Mm more steempower you have more upvote more $$$$
Getting downvoted by the flanders cult group. Bring it on! I want see your entire bot net Ned Flanders!
The steemians crying the loudest about flagging and censorship are themselves the biggest transgressors!
Dear Friend
You have to praise you like
Wow, he's behaving like an economic hitman!!
Say? what?
Unfollowed him. I am new to steem. I read a couple of his articles. Thanks for posting this. I see now that he represent all that I am against. I belief in a decentral world. Crypto is not about making money. It is about making a better world.
LOL
@themarkymark, this problem could be solved by changing the algorithm for calculating voting power. If users' voting power were calculated based on their interaction with the platform and its users, then it would be impossible for users to make large deposits and up/downvote with impunity without exposing themselves to corrective voting by other steemit users. I outline this a bit more in my most recent post, and would love to have additional feedback or buy-in from witnesses.
Every option you come up with, there is likely way to abuse it. Bots could abuse the scenario you present. That's the tricky thing, it isn't an easy problem to solve. There are lots of good ideas, but almost all of them have low effort/ low-cost ways to get around it.
Sure, bots could abuse it, and inevitably some would slip through the cracks, but their required interaction would still expose them to correction in the form of downvoting. We see that with spam bots now. Eventually they get downvoted to nothing. My proposal won't fix the problem of people trying to game the system overall, but it would provide a recourse for the ivory tower user that buys SP, doesn't expose themselves to downvotes or interact with the community and up/downvotes in ways that go against the communities' values.
Wait, did we get transported into Harrison Bergeron? :O
Also, Mark, I can definitely understand why you snapped, but it's sad to see it happen :(
Nah, I'm cool didn't snap. Just starting a revolution.
The problem with revolutions is they lead us right to where we left off. That's even the meaning of the word.
excellent comment
thank you so much

This is honestly one of the funniest things I've read all day. The drama and stories surrounding this questionable "member " of the community makes for great source material to work with. Great post Mark!
By the by folks, I'm new to steemit, and I'm glad to be a part of this new platform. If there's If theres any tips you've all got for a newbie like me I'd appreciate them. Thanks everyone!
Well done for not begging for the up vote. Write about your day to day life, take videos, pictures, etc... Create enjoyable content and the people will come as well as the votes.
