It was a great day to go to the gun range here in North Dakota it was sunny about 40 degrees and barely any wind. I was testing out a new magazine for my Beretta M9 and on my second to last shot of the day this happened.
Yup that's a blow out. It's suppose to be the strongest part of the case too.
Here's a close up of that 9mm brass case. Not a lot of budging of the case, it looks like it just straight up blew up that little section of brass. It was just some regular target ammo that has a mild power charge so I'm wondering if it was double charged or maybe the case had hairline fracture in it when it was formed.
Luckily no damage to the shooter AKA ME! A couple powder burn marks on my trigger finger. Scared the shit out of me though when I heard the pop and I saw smoke and something fly off my gun
My gun wasn't as lucky though the gasses were powerful enough to break one my grips off and send it flying.
I think I was pretty lucky nothing else got bent to destroy in the accident. I did fire the last round (very cautiously) and the gun cycled just find and did it things so I'm hoping I just need new grips which shouldn't be to expensive. Now this give me a reason to buy some nice wood grips for my Beretta :)

Anyone know if this type of accident is covered under warranty? I bought this gun brand new about 6 months ago.
That would definitely be scary. I don't know if it would be covered under warranty but I would sure want to get the chamber checked before I shot that thing again. Glad you came out all right.
Good point to inspect the barrel before shooting it.

I'd definitely be making some phone calls if it destroy my gun. Looks like replacement grips are only 20 bucks.
Glad that the new grips aren't very expensive but I still think you need to report the faulty casing. Couldn't that have really hurt someone? Glad you weren't hurt.
That is really sad, sorry buddy! At least it wasn't a squib, that could have been worse.

My dad had an issue where his gun pretty much, blew up, he was ok, it was made by Ruger, I don't know exactly what, he won it in a raffle so it was pretty nice. They wouldn't replace it outright because he reloads his ammunition, he is positive that he didnt double load it but that was their policy, they did give him a deal to replace it and sent him some free ruger stuff.
Maybe it wasn't seated properly inside the chamber?
I did have another bullet in that batch that failed to seat properly in the barrel but I re-racked the slide and it seated and fired just fine. I donno, it could just be a bad batch of ammo
I don't know the brand you used, but get away from this brand! They don't work well in your Beretta! Nice hand gun by the way!

You're right as long as you're not shooting steel or something where the bullets is going to fly back and hit you you will be fine 99.9999% of the time.
You're more likely to hurt your hand when the gun blows up as you can see :)
