I'm going to make my biggest purchase thanks to steemit in the next day or two...

in #guitar8 years ago

So for those of you that may not have experienced it, the funds you get from steemit are NOT fake internet money. They are very useable. Just convert them to bitcoin using something like blocktrades.us, bittrex.com, etc and then transfer it to something like a http://bitpay.com/card/ bitpay visa card and you can pretty much buy anything you wanted to do.

Thanks at closing in on a year of steemit I am finally going to do something I have wanted to do for over two decades. I am going to go buy a nice electric guitar. I already have an electric guitar and numerous acoustic guitars. Long ago I hit the point where I needed a better one. Life and priorities kept bumping it and I just never got around to buying one.

Well thanks to you wonderful people in the community and the wonder that is the steem blockchain that long dream is about to become a reality. I actually have enough to buy such a guitar. My family is excited as they have been trying to get me back into playing for a long time now. I've not played my guitar in more than a year and a half.

I was always pretty sure I'd end up with either a Jackson or an ESP as out of all the models I've played over the years in anticipation of buying one that fit me those were typically the sweet spot. There are some models and brands that were not very common or available back when I could play them. I really want to take some Schecters for a test ride too and see which one I will get. My criteria are pretty much that I want a floyd rose locking tremolo, and I'll most likely go for active pickups. Most likely the pickups will be EMGs. I know there are some nice variants that can switch between single and double coil so I expect to go play poorly (way out of practice) on a bunch of guitars and finally get a new one.

The fact that I can even do this is a dream. I couldn't even be thinking of it without steemit.com and steem.

I also am interested in potentially giving some 7 strings a whirl. It was actually reading up on this Hellraiser 7 String from Schecter that made me realize I really need to try this brand out.

Now before you start recommending a Les Paul or some other guitar without a Tremolo. I have access to guitars without tremolos. I want one for those rare occasions where I am wanting to play something that kind of requires a tremolo as it doesn't sound quite the same with an intense bend, or with a wha pedal. I haven't messed with a tremolo pedal before so I'm not sure how they would work, but there are also occasions where wha plus tremolo can give a rather fluid sound... (think Satriani) so I have no interest in buying a guitar without one when that has often been a barrier for me playing a particular song over the years. IF I already had a guitar to meet these needs then I'd be very open to all variety of guitars whether they had a tremolo or not.

As to Les Pauls. They are great guitars, but not really my thing. My first electric guitar at almost three decades ago was actually a Gibson. It wasn't a Les Paul though...

Exciting times... thanks steemit.

As a Les Paul possessor I fully understand you when say that you feel the need for something else, different. Glad to hear that Steemit finally gave you this opportunity that you were waiting for!
Welcome back in the guitars world ;)
Wish you the best

Good luck with it dude, personally I have not bought anything from my steem money but hopefully this will change. All the best :D

I have bought tons of things, but I've never dropped $800 to $1000 on anything before from Steem. I have done $250 or so before though.

hopefully it goes down well!

I like your choice in brands.. I own all the big named acoustics and electric.. but I think I play my Yamaha more than my Gibson or Martin...7 strings would be quite a commitment - I have a 12 string Guild that I should donate to someone.. I hate that guitar... hate my Gibson too.. but i'll never sell.. like bitcoin ;)

I have a 12 string as well, don't recall the brand as I don't play it much. I have an old Guild Nylon 6 string I play probably more than my current electric. I have two other 6 string acoustics. My electric is a beat up B.C. Rich Warlock that someone traded me for fixing their computer many years ago and it had issues, which my father and I fixed before he passed away, so even though it isn't a great guitar it has a lot of sentimental value.

Now I need something of higher quality. I've never tried out a Schecter and I'd really like to. I'd also really like to try an Ormsby as they are doing some interesting things, but they are not available in many places outside of Australia, and I live in the U.S. I've played quite a few Jacksons and ESPs and they would sing for me, so I've always thought I would go that way... but I'm at the very least going to check out the Schecters before I take that plunge.

ESPs are pretty.. Out of all my steel strings I think the Taylor sounds the best - they have some really nice ones right now (I get the magazine).. Definitely dont get the one that looks pretty - I have a Gibson SJ-200 I absolutely hate even though its beautiful.. doesnt sound right for my playing - but its something most guitar guys would kill for. Schecters are pretty cool as well - its all about what sounds right to you.. I would strip it all down to my Taylor and Yamaha classical if I had to.. and thats with a Martin D-28. I like american made personally :) Growing up in Canada it meant something to own a US made guitar (not a fake one). Electrics are a whole other story.. after rebuilding a Strat and being given a Telecaster Thinline - im good. I sold my marshall stack last year - it definately was not geared for suburbia....

Yeah... If I was in the market for another acoustic that might make sense as far as Yamaha or Taylor. I've played both before. My Guild Classical is actually pretty old and has a nice aged sound to it.

It is about what sounds right and what plays right. I've had guitars that didn't belong to me in my hands before and had magical things happen... I'd like to own a guitar that magical things happen. :)

Just reading your post, I can tell playing guitar gives you joy!!
The joy of playing will inspire more creative juices.
Get ready to harvest the result!!

I'm happy for you! Having the opportunity to obtain something you crave with crypto is absolutely amazing! Have fun using it!

Dreams come true)

Nice man! I am so glad that you're able to cash out and treat yourself to something nice!

Well done fellow Steemian! Thank you for posting. very encouraging.
@altcoinusa

Wow. That's very exciting. I have also recently started picking up the guitar again. And started steeming recently. I will likely use my first decent payout for something along the lines of a musical instrument. But I might get a decent microphone instead when the time comes!

Thank you @dwinblood for sharing your personal testimony of how steemit.com has enhanced your life. I will be posting my own post like yours soon hopefully!!!

Keep playing man.. it is one of the few passively meditative activities once you get your changes going..

I will. Thanks! "changes"? please expound.

Oh sorry - I meant changes as in chord changes or note changes.. once you start playing again im sure you wont stop :)

Ah yes. I've been practicing my changes with my eyes closed lately. That F chord though... It's easy by itself, but the changes...

It takes years.. but its one of those things youll always carry with you!

I've told my kids who all play instruments: Every moment spent playing is never wasted.

There are so many other things that are time wasters.

The guitar is dope! I'm glad you can buy it because of steemit. This is why it is so awesome!

Congratulations. I can wait to hear what you decided to get. Ive had my Gibson sg as my main guitar for years but I have had to use my $300 Yamaha rgx for some songs because only bending strings doesn't always cut it.

Yeah I haven't had a good tremolo for a very long time. I've run into those occasions that bending didn't cut it. If not for those occasions I'd not care one bit about whether I have a tremolo or not.

Are we going to get a performance? Perhaps to a chaos poet piece?

I had a tremolo as a pet when I was a child. Cute, but with a nasty bite.

Obviously, I am very musical.

I am glad you get to do this Deva. You have worked hard here in many different ways and deserve something for the effort.

I haven't really played in more than a year and a half. Will I do things on steemit with it. I am sure. Whether they will be live videos of me playing it or not we will have to wait and see. I don't have any video cameras or web cameras near me for a reason. I could decide to go that route though.

I may make some music with it though and build something visual to go along with it. :) It's way too early to say.

Making music for @chaospoet stuff. Very possible. It might wake the dormant @chaospoet inside me and cause me to start writing weird things on that account again. :) That comes in waves.

Heck yes. What he said @tarazkp

Who said dreams don't come true ,I hope you find the right one :-) are you going to do a video of you playing the new one ?

We'll see. I don't own a webcam or anything like that so I don't usually video myself. I may make some videos with some songs I make up with it at some point though. We shall see. At this point videos are not usually my thing. That could change though. Never say never.

This is a great story. I have only been on Steemit for two weeks but I have already been able to purchase some Bitcoin and I plan to use my earnings here to build a nice portfolio of cryptocurrencies.

Thanks for sharing.

Work smart and play hard...great idea to enjoy your money which was well earned . Keep up the good post, like it a lot hence following you. More success

Just play the hell out of anything you think you might like, you'll find the right one.

good for you dude! keep ripping!

STEEM ON

She's a beaut! I don't think you could've spent your money wiser. Can't wait to hear what you create in the future.

Gotta love that excited feeling once you realize you've finally got the funds you need to get you just what you want. Good luck choosing, but I'd recommend something by Ibanez, perhaps a GRX70QA. It has a really smooth tremolo, and sounds pretty sweet, plus you can get one for about 200 U.S.D. Good luck and happy shredding!

something by Ibanez

I've played a lot of Ibanez over the years. Not really what works for me. I ended up getting something less expensive than I was planning because it just worked. I bought an ESP MH350FM. I played some Jacksons, some Schecters (I hadn't played one before), and the ESP. If I hadn't decided I liked this ESP I likely would have got some variant of a Jackson Soloist.

Good post @dwinblood please give me upvoted

wow...what a beauty....congratulations...wish you better things ahead as a stemian...
