Testing stats between pool and solo

As you can see i started good on the 13th and i stopped today, I'm now on grc pool and will see if stats look better after a little over two weeks, yes i know the difference between solo and pool, but i would like to see how different they are stat wise for future crunchers, solo is good with a balance 3k, is ok but more is better, so while testing pool crunching i will hope to increase my balance faster.

Plus you can see how your doing on a pool a little better than solo, bad thing is your crunching for the pool and not yourself

Sort:

Putting test on hold right now as solo crunching has a 35% mag boost at the moment i believe for two weeks [if i read right] so until then....

Looking forward to your results!

You will gain GRC at almost exactly the same rate whether in a pool or on your own. The key differences are:

  • In a pool you pay a tiny fee to withdraw your GRC into your wallet. This is literally negligible.
  • The pool gives you less options to customise your project settings, so there is less room to optimise for your rig.
  • The pool enables you to be paid out far more regularly if you are a user with low balance and low magnitude. Over the course of a year, the average payouts will be the same provided you stake at least once every 6 months when solo.

The network runs best (and most securely) if everyone were to run their own full wallet node and staked their own POR. Of course, the pool offers many benefits for new miners which I am sure we are all aware of. It is best used as a stepping stone to help you on your journey from entering the word of GRC to becoming a solo miner.

I figured, i just wanted to see for myself and share a visual statistic and get some more GRC faster. Either way still doing science!

Respect for doing the experiment.

Solo if you can, its better for the security of Gridcoin and gives you a voice in the voting, and reduces the voting weight of the pool operator too...

I still have my wallet staking as i still am earning por, just crunching in a pool for a while

I'm looking forward to see your results! I have similar magnitude/balance (20/3000+) and doing solo crunching - not earning much...

What hardware are you using?

Here: AMD FX6300 with 2x R9270x
I have also better pc with 280x card, but it's working on Primecoin pool atm (2 $ per day)

Amd phenom xii 1045, and 5850 on one.
Core 2 6600 and gtx 285 [soon to have 2 more :)]
I tried primecoin but couldnt get the wallet to sync so i could mine :(

Please add:

seednode=primeseed.muuttuja.org

to your Primecoin. conf and it will sync!

addnode=208.68.37.41
addnode=129.7.204.114
addnode=198.199.100.118
addnode=87.98.146.72
addnode=88.190.56.58
addnode=78.31.111.116
addnode=198.199.84.246
addnode=197.96.138.8
addnode=96.126.103.94
addnode=192.81.212.113
addnode=198.199.112.141
addnode=192.34.58.127
addnode=31.25.188.219
addnode=54.235.231.242
addnode=175.41.200.152

this got me at least 3 connections but not your suggestion though maybe replace seed with add will....

Also do you solo mine or pool? and if pool where and what miner do you use?
thanks!

Hats off to you doing the experiment as being able to actually see and compare the results is great, a picture is worth and all that.
I've always run solo-crunching myself, pools with other things, and prefer the say in how things work that we get from being able to vote as solo-crunchers.

Yeah GRC is like the easiest crypto to do solo........as long as you have a high balance, and with voting i really havent seen much to vote on yet...

This "test" will result in nothing but disappointment. You are charged a certain % for being in a pool. Your payouts may be quicker in a pool and more consistent, however, they will not match the solo effort if you were to take it on alone, over a short period of time... I have heard that you need some GRC in your wallet to get a DPoR quicker, however, at 1,690 GRC, I am still waiting... you may be correct, however, I have always been solo; no need crunching and discovering and solving a math conjecture from 200 B.C. and not getting credit for it...
Just my thoughts

.005 grc = 5 sat, plus a donation really isnt hurting, and as stated yes on a pool you crunch for the owner instead of solo, but as you said 1690 balance looks like a stake every 2 months +/- so a balance of at least 10k will be great, and also like i said this is just a visual experiment to share, crunching GRC is already at a profit loss unless you have really cheap electricity or free, its all for science.

How is Your pool/solo test going?
