World Community Grid: Crunching Since 2005 (you should crunch too!)

in #gridcoin6 years ago (edited)

Are you familiar with World Community Grid (WCG)? If not, please consider joining—and earning some crypto, too!

WCG was established by IBM over a decade ago. The project works with universities and research institutes around the world to conduct scientific research. "Distributed Computing" is the method of search, and it means the division of a simulation into work units for individual computers to crunch/calculate. As someone who loves science, this has been a cool way to learn about different types of research—while also contributing to that research. It has been really neat to lend computing time to issues like finding novel compounds to cure HIV and studying the human microbiome (the bacteria that live in our bodies, like probiotics!)

Oh, and I forgot to mention, for those crypto lovers: Byteball and Gridcoin currently allow you to earn their cryptos by linking your WCG work!

I am glad that Gridcoin works with WCG again. I will start crunching this project again. It used to be blocked in order to get GDPR compliance.

Is it official that Gridcoin works with WCG again? I would like to accept new work from the project. Any links or news on the issue?

It is funny how many entities in the US blame "GDPR compliance" for troubles.
In 95% that is simply bullshit. The rules were there (in the EU or part of EU's countries) before, it was just that you could not harm those in the US who did not follow.
