Going Viral !!

in #goviral6 years ago

Want to go viral? Start tuning into this series. We are going to cover many aspects of going viral.

Last week,

It was an introduction to the series. Sort of getting to understand, who we are really appealing to on the internet… that is PEOPLE!

We started with the human factor. And how we relate to what we see on the internet. Often it’s because of what we already know, and how we feel about it. That is the way we respond to what we see.

And now today:

We are going to talk about people’s reaction to what they see.

Instant response:

  • If people don’t respond instantly to what they see, whether it’s your post, photo or video, it won’t go viral.

Quite a bold statement that is, don’t you think?! But very important!

From what we already know,

We judge what we see. And if it isn’t what we expect, we gasp.

Oh that’s so wrong!” is your instant thought. The very fact that it’s not what you expected, what do you do? You quickly re-assess the situation. “It just can’t be true!”

And on the second assessment, you burst out laughing, because you suddenly saw the funny side of it.

Gripping attention:

  • What got you attention? First: The oddity of what you saw.
  • Your reaction was due to your feelings about it.

And to get that attention:

The statement or design of it needs to be… BOLD. And in its very boldness, it was simply put across without any unnecessary frills.

This photo went viral a few years back. So don't re-post it now. But as an illustration, it is very simply bold and very funny. Maybe because it isn't what people would expect of a dog's behaviour.

The next fact:

The action of what we saw wasn’t what we expected either. It was odd behaviour

Going back to last week’s analogy and the story of our cat who couldn’t see the rat at first, in our chest of drawers.

  •  Our cat didn’t expect to see a rat in our house. Outside yes, in the grass or in the bushes, but not when the cat was sleeping so peacefully indoors.
  • I had disturbed the cat. Took it out of its comfort zone, out of its usual routine
  • When the cat did see the rat, both were mesmerized… unbelieving! It took a little while to assess the situation.

So what are we talking about here?

It is important to do something different, in a bold way, to get people’s instant attention.

  • And in order to be bold, your post must come across as simple as possible. Making the statement or image clear, that anyone can understand it instantly
  • Been different also means doing things in unique and original ways. Because it’s un-usual, that gets people’s attention.
  • And because it is different, they’re intrigued and want to know more about it. And when they see that it is dynamic or shocking and way-out, they want to show their friends. “Everyone must see this for sure! Oh no, they mustn’t miss this!”
Sort:

These principles make sense, some viral stuff out there don't.
Sometimes we see things go viral and we wonder, how/why?
Then, we watch Ralph breaks the internet and it all makes sense :)
Sort of.
Like fashion, food, or drinks many of the things we consume are somehow determined by tendencies established by those who can influence people's decision. Many people decide based on the reputation or power of influence of whoever recommends the "viral thing", regardless of whether or not it deserves to be so popular.
But, again, popularity is not exact science; it tend sto be more pathos and logos.

I see what you mean. And I often think why and how do some artists get famous with their terrible childish garish art they produce and sell like hot cakes! How do they get away with it?
I think mainly, it is shocking stuff that blows people's minds!
Thank you for your input, it also gave me food for thought, another trait to this series.

Great to see the second go viral post!

For some reason, with my steemit blog, sometimes I put lots of effort into a post, with many awesome detailed pictures, and I will get $0.02 total... then other times I post 1 picture with just a title and I get $0.20...
I am thinking of doing a post “to my followers” asking them what they want to see from me or what I can improve. I really want to grow here and have been trying hard the past year - the next year I will succeed more and more :)

My instant impression when going to your site, is that your headline titles are too long. Make them more dramatic. Think how newspaper headlines are composed. Always remember what people are really looking for.
Because if people are gripped by the impact of your headlines, they will get to know how fantastic your contents is and come back again and again. Your site must be like a prestige daily newspaper or TV news centre.

Thank you very much for the advice 😀 I appreciate you looking at my blog:) I will keep that in mind for sure!

Thanks again, and have a good day 😀🌅

We always waiting for your posts. Because your posts always informative and logical for us. Your this series is very amazing. Peoples reaction is very important in our life. Sometime you feel sad and tel a story with your friend and his reaction is ohhhhh thats so sad news. After telling the story you feel better. Alone dancing is very enjoyament for me. Because no one watching.. hahaha. Great post. Thanks for sharing. @artguru.

Love to have you around, checking out what next we have here.
That sad story you are talking about was passed on because it touched the hearts of people. Emotional stuff is sensational. But people also what to know there was a happy ending to it all.

We are surely shaped by our experience for instance if you never see, hear and see others doing and it determines how we are going to classify and group things in our society. Creating an atmosphere that suit the taste of the audience by painting mental picture of an object, abstract or things in our piece, I believe the response of people towards it will be WOW. Captivating.

Yes, our humour is shaped by own experience and how we look upon the world in general.
But we also have to understand the sense of humour of the world out there, to understand how people relate to things we post. And how instantly it will impact on their minds.

The rarity or peculiarity of something is what usually attracts the most attention or is distinguished from other things. An original story or photo usually leaves a lot to think about because of what you say, we wouldn't be used to it. Great ideas are born from our creativity and that is more valued.

You are so right. If we weren't so actively immersed in our creativity, we wouldn't be able to think up such exciting stuff to post. We have to live on a creative high all the time, to be permanently inspired.

So that's a good post which is viral post I like to read your post and this informative post..
