If we did find a way to transmute other elements into gold (at a macroscale anyway, setting off a nuke creates a small amount of gold but it's only a teeeeny tiny bit) then it's unlikely to be even vaguely economical. There's a lot of gold in the ground we know about but isn't worth digging up, tho we probably would dig it up before we bothered seriously trying to transmute stuff into it.
