NGC MS70 Graded Queen's Beasts 1/4 oz Gold Coins

in #gold7 years ago

For my first post I thought I would show you some of my favorite coins from my collection.
My graded MS70 Queen’s Beasts ¼ gold bullion collection.

The Queen’s Beasts Collection is a series of ten coins from The Royal Mint, inspired by the ancestral beasts of heraldry, myth and legend that have watched over Her Majesty the Queen throughout her unprecedented reign, from her coronation to her Sapphire Jubilee.

The first in the series the lion of England

The Queen's Beasts are ten heraldic statues depicting the genealogy of Queen Elizabeth II.
They were commissioned by the British Ministry of Works from sculptor James Woodford (who was paid the sum of £2,750 for the work) to stand in front of the temporary annex to Westminster Abbey for the Queen's coronation in 1953.

The beasts are some six-foot (1.83 m)
The beasts are: the lion of England, the griffin of Edward III, the falcon of the Plantagenet’s, the black bull of Clarence, the Yale of Beaufort, the white lion of Mortimer, the White Greyhound of Richmond, the red dragon of Wales, the unicorn of Scotland, and the white horse of Hanover.

The second coin in the series the the griffin of Edward III

The third coin to be released in the series was the red Dragon of Wales.

I'm looking forward to the next release in the series. The next coin in bullion should be the Unicorn, but its not clear as Royal Mint have been releasing the coins in a random order.

Sort:

It doesn't seem like a unicorn would fit in this series. The 1st 3 all look like they are going to attack you. Are they going to make an angry unicorn?!?

The unicorn proof is out. Funny you should say this as many said it looks cartoon like.

Gold fever

I did not know 'The Queen's Beasts' were actual statues. That picture makes all the difference. Thanks for the story behind the 'beasts'.
This is why I'm loving steemit and the #steemsilvergold community. We are sharing our favorites and explaining the stories/reasons why we love these coins. It's not always 'just' about silver/gold bullion price.
Of, course these coins are fantastic.

Thanks Being Welsh I favor the Dragon of Wales and cant wait to get the proof when its released.

Your correct sometimes as stackers collectors. Myself included we forget that lots of coins have some fascinating stories behind the design.

Yup, I'm trying to post a few lines about some of the unique coins that I'm displaying. . . good stories, good times on steemit.
