Gods Unchained is a trading card game created by Fuelbros who previously created Etherbots and it runs on the Ethereum Blockchain. With the previous success of Etherbots the company is now diving into their next blockchain game with Coinbase Ventures as funding.
Co-founder and COO of the game, Robbie Ferguson said that blockchain technology "makes lots of sense" in the gaming industry and further added:
With over $50 billion turned over in in-game assets on marketplaces every year, current game publishers are essentially acting as central banks with absolutely no oversight or regulation – this needs to change.
During an interview with CNN, he mentioned that this Coinbase-funded game will not add to the Ethereum Blockchain’s congestion, even though the game currently has over a million users playing concurrently, it won’t weigh down the ETH network. Players will only use the Ethereum blockchain to purchase new cards or transfer existing ones - the rest will be done off-chain. This will still mean transaction fees for the players though as we have recently seen the Ethereum blockchain be under a lot of load resulting in the fees increasing by up to 5 wei to get a transaction faster confirmed. This is a big advantage for Steemmonsters which runs on the Steem blockchain were transaction fees are non-existing.
The CEO goes on to add that they are building a unique system to cope with the current ETH network and that it won't rely on the completion of Sharding and Plasma.
The biggest difference between Blockchain Trading Card games and current popular existing games such as Hearthstone is that when players buy their cards they will have true ownership over their collection. This will increase trading activity and give players the opportunity to sell off their collection if they want to do so at any time which is not something that current "centralized" games and platforms allow. Although the existing project Enjin Coin is working on improving that aspect.
Similar to Hearthstone players will be able to purchase Decks and open them in a random generated number fashion with at least one rare, epic or legendary guaranteed depending on which packs you buy.

I am personally really excited to see how this game works out, I especially hope the gameplay is fun and competitive. I am thrilled to be living at a time where gaming is moving into blockchainized systems and giving more power to the players - it has been way too long where gaming companies have had the upper hand and have been able to do whatever they want without listening to their players and giving them too little control over anything in the game.

An important feature of Gods Unchained is that the first edition will be limited, perhaps because of the high costs of the packages, we have played Magic know that the first editions if they are limited can end up costing a lot of money, particularly I think that Steemmonsters should limit also the editions, it is amazing the amount of money that these games move without even having been launched, because of the high costs of the Gods Unchained packages I will not be able to enter the game but I think that Etherbots if I am going to enter.

First time hearing about this one. While I do see a transaction fee just like an auction house fee in a game. Still I would rather do without such a cost. I can only hope steemmonsters becomes a case study and shows signs of why a transaction free blockchain would be better to run these kinds of games on.
The design they went with reminds of somewhat of hearthstone. At the very least it is easy for the player to understand the different elements of a card as they made that very easy from a visual stand point.
While I don’t see myself investing in this one it is at least nice to know more and more games are slowly coming to the blockchain and so with it will the gamers and more money.

lol, last i read about enjin they were working on a new ERC token to make these ingame transfers require a lot less gas on the ethereum blockchain, but I am not really up to speed or 100% sure on the technicals. Still a good longterm hodl I think.
They seem to have a very astute and dedicated team. I tend to like their announcements. They may indeed end up being a massive surprise package for those who HODL.

I would say I am excited that finally real value is being given to game play through blockchain technology instead of the usual imaginary coins we used to have.

Looks to me like 2018 will be the year where blockchain games go from just holding kitties and random stuff to actual real games played on the blockchain with mechanics and real gameplay, looking forward to the future of not only this but also steem monsters!

At this point this game is really revolutionary and this article is as relevant today as it was when it was release. I can see my self playing this one for a while , already transfer a good amount of my ETH into packs. Now that they received an extra 15 million in funding — no ceilings..

I'm downloading this. Let's try how this work, looks funny. I would love most important coins as Ethereum, DeepOnion or Neo to have some method like this to get some coins. Although DeepOnion has an Airdrop system, I like it too :P
Hi acid. there seems to be more developments happening on a weekly basis somewhere. I was never into the card games as such as I was a parent then. My kids loved them and know the popularity so expect all of these things to do well. I do worry about the Etherium blockchain though after the kitties bought it down before. Can Etherium handle this if it booms? We will have to wait and see.
Seems like an interesting game. I don't quite like the fee but ok, not that of a big deal..
But what I am waiting for is cyberpunk game.. I hopw that will bring crypto gaming on whole another level. I think it will be a good game because it is from the creators of the Witcher.
Aynway, gaming world is changing and crypto is taking over. Hopefully it will bring more people closer to crypto and get them to know more about it.

I don’t play just due to time but I love seeing more and more of this type of thing happening. I think this all just the beginning and most of us can’t even begin to imagine the possibilities that lie ahead.

Interesting to see you say that... I'm not a big gamer, but one of the things that soured me some was the sensation that everything was just a giant marketing platform thinly disguised as "gaming."
Not sure if it's really the same thing you're hinting at here, but it would be nice to reach a state where the players at the top aren't just the ones who could afford the shiniest power-ups and tools, but also who earned them.
