"Therefore, guard yourself and keep your soul diligently, so that you do not forget the things that your eyes have seen or depart from your heart all the days of your life; rather, you will teach them to your children and to the children of your children. " Deuteronomy. 4: 9
When going to a professional in psychology or counseling, it is common to inquire into the family of the person. This is because many of our problems, fears, complexes, weaknesses and strengths are associated with experiences lived in the family. Not in vain does God want the formation of his children to begin at home.
Jehovah tells his people to "keep" and "not to forget the things that your eyes have seen." That is, the own experiences with the Creator. I must not forget and turn away from that God who must be a reality in my life; On the contrary, on all those things that I have learned, I am told: "you will teach them to your children and to the children of your children". This is not a simple demand to be met, but an urgency for the future and for our generations.
Christian formation is first conferred on the home, not on the church. Parents should teach the Word of God to their children at home. That was always the desire of our God: "These words that I am commanding you today will be on your heart. You shall repeat them to your children, and you shall speak to them of them when you are in your house and walk by the way, when you lie down and when you get up "(Deut 6: 6-7). This demand was met by pious families who saw their results in the later generations. Such was the case of Timothy's family, as Paul testified, when he said: "... bringing to mind the unfeigned faith that is in you, which lived first in your grandmother Loida and in your mother Eunice, and I am sure that in you too ... But you persist in what you have learned and persuaded yourself, knowing from whom you have learned and since childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures "(2 Timothy 1: 5, 3:14). It is regrettable to see parents who hold the churches responsible for the development of their children in the Christian life. The solution is not to take them to the church to listen to a preaching. That has no value, if contradictorily in my home I am giving another teaching different from what is the Christian life with my life.
The application and teaching of the divine instructions and of his Word will produce a very valuable fruit. Fruit that will be seen in the behavior, relationships and values of our children. "Keep and listen to all these words that I command you, so that doing good and right in the sight of the LORD, your God, may go well with you and your children after you, forever" (Deut 12: 28). On our part, we only have to comply with the teaching and the application. That real and true God in our lives will not only impact our families, but also society. Since: "Such are our families, so will our society."
