We're losing our planet.

There’s nothing fancy going on here. It’s a photo of the moon, that I took. However, the point of interest I’ve always to find in this photo is simply the amount of space, and land, and distance that is in the one shot. And also how can this can lend perspective.

The moon has a surface area of 14,600,000 square miles.

Earth has a surface area of 196,900,000 square miles.

Earth has a land surface area of 57,268,900 square miles.

The surface area of the moon is roughly 25% the land surface area of Earth.

Now listen.

Our land is many things, it is fertile and forgiving, and desolate and harsh. Above all however, this land gives us trees, and trees give us life.

Roughly 500 years ago, about 50% of all land was covered in trees.

28,960,250 square miles of trees.

Almost two full moons worth.

In 2000, only half on that remained.

We've lost 13,281,250 square miles of trees, almost an entire moon.

500 years ago there were only 500,000,000 humans on Earth.

In 2000 there were excess of 6,000,000,000.

This is all I have to say. I make no assertion besides, this is bad. This is very, very, bad. Share this. Upvote this. Let people know. This is a comminity that I love, and one I want to see care. Just care people, please. Just care.
