Yeah, I can relate to that. :-) Still, as someone who'd like to succed on their own, I've decided against going the featured author route, and concentrate on other projects, like helping people with translations. It does bring some money, perhaps not as much as a featured post does, but the exposure is great! About couple more followers and I'll hit my 1st hundred. While some of them are people that added everyone and their grandmother, and perhaps even some bots maybe, it is still a significant milestone. :-)
Luckily I can manage without relying on the steemit payouts, and try to play the long game.

I wouldn't call it success yet, as there is no returns on the effort so far, but maybe in a month or couple. Thing is I probably better do some posts of my own as well, to at least measure if there are any returns via that avenue.
