Difference between "street art" and "vandalism"... Chiang Mai editiion!

in #getyerlearnon6 years ago (edited)

I love urban art. Anonymous street art, to me, is some of the best art that exists in the world.. There are exceptionally talented people out there that are just interested in having the world see what they are capable of and they don't want money or recognition.

Look at that... that is lovely and it is difficult to imagine the skill that is held in the hands of the person who made it. I mean think about it: Can you hold a can of spray paint in just the right way to make a monkey wearing boxing gloves?

That is just fantastic. I want everyone to know that all of these shots are from the same street in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

This is all on a street (alley) of about 200 meters and this is all incredible. However, there is also a bunch of garbage in there (in the same alley)

The last 2 pictures are done by talentless ass-hats. People that had access to either a marker or a half-used can of paint. There is a very huge difference between the two: One is art and the other is a crime that simply is crap.

make your own opinion about this i guess. I love to see one of them and the other I hope there is CCTV footage of the perpetrators.

There is a very real difference between street art and vandalism and it is not specific to one particular part of the world. This was just a random discovery on a side street near where i recently began to live.

If you have a pic of actual street art (I am not at all interested in vandalism) please post it here so i can see it . I love that stuff.

That's incredible. You made this?

Here a wall in Penang Malaysia. I guess it is a little bit of art and a little bit of trash. The whole spot looks vandalized, I think. I have no idea what's up with the holes in the ground.

eat lots of Indian food at those 24 Jam places. That was my favorite part of Penang

I am living in KL now. Those Indian places are my very favorite!

You are right. One has skill and the other one has nothing.I would think that it would be harder to paint with a can than a brush. Surely they have to use a brush somewhere for the fine details. I have no idea as I have only seen the finished work and not the actual process. These people are very talented and in my mind is not graffiti and is another form of art.
Unfortunately I have nothing decent near me and only the talent less stuff which you can find anywhere.

one of the features of the guesthosue I owned was we invited street artists to stay for free in exchange for their work. I love that sort of art. One guy was showing me his "portfolio" and it was basically just him signing some shite words with a giant pen in public places. We did not extend the offer to him
