Today, I will taking us through my research project on the meaning/nature of Geology itself.
Definition of Geology:
Geology is simply the study of the Earth, the components of which it is made, the structure of those components, and the processes/stages acting upon them.
It is also composed of the study of organisms that have inhabited or dominated our planet.
A crucial and interesting part of geology is the study of how Earth's components, structures, processes and organisms have changed over time.
What does a Geologist do?
Geologists partake in diverse but related activities just to understand and comprehend the history of our planet. The better they can get aquainted with the Earth’s history, the better they can foresee and consequently predict how events and processes of the past might have some influence on the future. Here are some examples:
Geologists study Earth processes:
Many processes or events such as landslides, earthquakes (tsunamis), floods, and volcanic eruptions can be hazardous to people which leads to death of plenty of people most times.
Geologists strive diligently to understand these processes vastly so as to avoid building important structures where they might be damaged by earthquakes or in some cases where an entire city is destroyed by an unforgettable tsunami.
If geologists can prepare maps of areas that have flooded by natural disasters in the past, they can as well prepare maps of areas that might be flooded in time to come.
These maps drafted can be used to guide the development of communities and determine majorlly where flood protection or flood insurance is simply needed.
Geologists study Earth materials:
People tend to use Earth materials daily depending on the circumstances at hand. They use oil produced from wells, metals produced from mines, and water drawn from streams or from underground i.e below the ground level.
Geologists organize studies that locate rocks that has important metals inside of it, make plans on the mines that produce them and the methods used to take away the metals from the rocks.
They do relatively similar work to locate and produce oil, natural gas, and groundwater.
Geologists study Earth history:
In our World today, we are mostly concerned about climate change. Some reasonable number of geologists are working diligently to learn about the past climates of Earth and how they have changed over time.
This historical geology news information is so important to understand how our current climate is seemingly changing and what the outcome might turn out to be.
Geology as a Career.
Geology can be a very interesting, researchable and rewarding career. It is a profession i would love at least one of my children to take on as a course..
The minimum training required is a four-year college degree in geology. Pre-college students who are interested in becoming geologists should simply take a full curriculum of college preparatory courses, especially those in mathematics, science, and writing.
Subjects related to computers, geography and communication are also needed and important.
Geologists work in a variety of settings. These include:
- natural resource companies,
- environmental consulting companies,
- government agencies,
- non-profit organizations, and
- universities.
Many geologists do field work, Research (what i like doing) at least part of the time. Others spend their time mostly in laboratories, classrooms or in offices. Almost every geologists prepare reports, do calculations and use computers., (i use computers for my research most often).
How Can You Become a Geologist?
If you are a pre-college student for instance, you can prepare to become a geologist by doing well in all of your courses. Science related subjects are especially important, note also that mathematics, writing, and other disciplines are used by every geologist during working periods.
If you are in any way considering college or graduate school, there are so many universities that offer courses or programs in geology. Visit the website of a school that offers a geology degree, get in touch with the geology department of the school, bring to their notice that you are interested in the course and make arrangements to visit the school or institution. Don't be hesitant. Good schools and scholarly professors want to be contacted by interested students...
And you can also imitate me, I did both geology and geography courses online.. I paid for lecture fee and i also wrote exams online..
My major discipline that i studied in the university is Accounting.. I'm an Accountant by profession but a geologist by interest..
In other words,, I'm a Geological Accountant! Lol..
Thanks guys for your time going through this educational content..
See you next time..
I remain gabeman!
