This is incredible! It gives my #rockhound adventures new meaning. I've always wanted to find a meteorite ... and the dark one glows when you put a flash light under it! Right up my alley. I've heard of the Lybian Desert glass before.
Some conspiracy theorists that think the earth is flat believe that this desert glass comes from chips that have cracked off the 'glass dome' that we are 'traped under'. Not that I particularly believe it, and of course it's not exactly factual, I just thought it was interesting!
Did you find these or buy them?
Hi @bitfiend I wish I knew of this category #rockhound before posting as i would have added it here as well (just edited the categories and added #rockhound) .
Looking at your posts I can see your into your rocks and crystals especially ones when a light is underneath bring gifts of a whole new dimension!
Moldavite is surely for You, you will have to tie good string on them, or a good clasp as they are so high vibration a lot of people loose them as they tend to fly off!.
I love your story about the Lybian glass it gave me a chuckle thinking about holding a chunk of the glass filament. The next time I see a friend of mine that believes this theory, incidentally he drinks his own urine, I'm not into the idea think its called (taking the piss) i will show him my evidence.
Seriously though these are rarer than rocking horse dung!
I do have a friend that has a few kilos of lybian glass probably the biggest collection around but has them carved and made into exquisite jewellery. I've even got a necklace that I've crafted from small tumbled pieces collected from the cutting and crafting of bigger bits, but that's another story....
Great to connect with you another #geology enthusiast i look forward to sharing posts in the future with you too 😊
Thanks for using the #rockhound tag! I also use @rockhounds to curate, although it's still a fairly new account so the voting power is very low. Just trying to grow a community of rockhounds and seems you fit the bill well! I love making my rocks glow. If it glows, it's worth keeping!
I went to the local antique shop the other day and browsed through a lot of foreign stones they have for sale there but there wasn't any desert glass or meteors. Thanks for your reply! I look forward to seeing more!
