DEPRESSION
Depression is a serious problem, and should not be taken lightly. Many people think of depression as just being sad all the time, but it can also take the form of apathy (not caring about anything or feeling empty inside).
Does Depression kills
About 800,000 people around the world die from suicide every year. About half of them commit suicide while suffering from major depression. So yes, depression can kill.
Why DEPRESSION?
It's normal to feel sad at some point in life, especially after a traumatic life event, but if the sadness is lasting beyond weeks, you are feeling excessive guilt. Research have shown that anger, or apathy, eating too little or too much, finding it impossible to get up in the mornings or unable to sleep, not being able to enjoy your usual activities, unable to maintain relationships and heart breaks, divorce and struggling to get through the day, you may be depressed rather than sad. If you are having thoughts of hopelessness and suicide, you may be suffering from severe depression. Because depression is often caused by hormonal imbalance, it can even be triggered by something as seemingly harmless as having to take a break in regular exercise due to injury.
Can DEPRESSION be cured?
The good news is that depression can be cured. If you have access to a doctor who can diagnose and prescribe you antidepressants, antidepressants in conjunction with therapy is the fastest cure for depression. The natural way to cure depression is to maintain a regular lifestyle. Stick to a strict schedule (think military discipline) of waking up at the same time in the morning, eating three healthy meals a day, getting regular exercise, spending time outside in the sun(research), forcing yourself to interact with others, and going to sleep every day at the same time. In the beginning, you will find this difficult and you will still feel sad. However you will find the routine easier over time. Only then you can try to identify and modify your negative thought processes that may have contributed to the depression. Experiencing a major episode of depression in your life makes it more likely for you to experience future episodes - but if you learn how to cope once, you will have the skills to avert or at least shorten episodes of depression in the future. If you start having suicidal thoughts, please speak to someone, preferably a doctor. A doctor could provide counseling or medication.
Also, there are several lifestylechanges you can make yourself to feel better. First, follow a routine. Sleep, wake up, eat, exercise, and go out of the house at the same time everyday. Depression can be caused by hormonal imbalances in your body, and exercise, good rest, and good nutrition can help put things back in balance. Set small goals for yourself each day and if you are successful, challenge yourself further the next day. Take on responsibilities - again, start with small ones, so you do not feel overwhelmed. If you already have too many responsibilities, try asking friends or family members for support. Take time to do things that make you happy. If nothing seems to make you happy now, remember the activities that once made you happy, and force yourself to do them. If you are prone to isolating yourself, make sure you interact with friends or family everyday. Try something new.
Overall, here is a break down on how to manage DEPRESSION.
