The Man In The Window (Part 2)

in #gedwriting8 years ago (edited)

In case you haven't read part one of this story, I have left a link at the end of this post so you may read it :)

I woke up with a start as my alarm clock gave out a shriek of excitement at the thought of a new day, I on the other hand did not share the same excitement.

I rolled out of bed and pulled my curtains open, ready to soak up the joyous warmth that came from the morning sun but I did not feel it, I opened my eyes 'Miserable weather again' I thought to myself.

I took a shower, pulled on my scrubs and went to make some coffee.

The encounter with John the day before had still left me a little bit more than uneasy. 'What kind of business would a man like him, be doing in the middle of the Scottish Highlands?' I thought to myself as is I savoured my last sip of coffee.

By the time my shift had ended, all I wanted was to crawl into bed and sleep for a hundred years, rainy weather has a way of doing that to me.

I instead, decide to do the next best thing, go and grab a cup of coffee and do some reading. When I got to the cafe, it was fairly busy so I ordered my coffee and searched the cafe for an empty table.

I found one near the back of the cafe and curled up on the sofa and began to read.

(Let me set the scene for you)

I had been so enthralled in my book that I had barely noticed the figure standing next to my table.

"Hello Bella" I forcefully dragged my eyes away from the words on the page that had been holding them captive for hours.

"John, hi, what are you doing here?" I asked with more shock then I would've liked to reveal. He shook his paper cup and said " Same as you, only far less" he glanced over at the three coffee cups that had already accumulated on my table, I let out an unwilling giggle and looked back to my book.

"May I join you?"

"Oh, um, sure" I said as I cleared the cups away from the other side of the table. He slid in to the seat opposite me and sipped his coffee.

"How was work?" he asked looking at my scrubs and my very messy ponytail that I hadn't bothered to fix.

"Well, to be completely honest with you, quite terrible."

"How so?" he gave me a look that seemed to be a mixture of sympathy and mockery, I hated it. " Well a toddler bit me, an old lady yelled at me and my boss hit on me, again." He then did the most shocking thing. He started laughing. I was shocked but after a few seconds I too began laughing at myself.  I relaxed a little bit and we ended up having a long conversation about my life and what made me want to become a nursing student.

I left the cafe with a sense of relief but I was still not able to shake the feeling the this man was up to something and I was determined to find out what it was.

Thank you so much for reading this post.I will be posting part three as soon as possible. I hope you enjoyed it x
