Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continued the cash flow to Hamas, despite concerns raised from within his own government.
Israel approved the deal in August 2018, when Netanyahu was premier. Qatar began making monthly payments to the Gaza Strip in cash-filled suitcases – delivered by the Qataris through Israel.
Even then, Netanyahu was criticized by his coalition partners for the deal and for being too soft on Hamas.
“To allow Hamas to have all these suitcases full of cash, that goes directly to reordering themselves against Israelis. Why would we feed them cash to kill us?” Bennett asked.
Netanyahu’s plan to continue allowing aid to reach Gaza through Qatar was in the hope that it might make Hamas an effective counterweight to the PA and prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state.
Netanyahu has come under increasing criticism as the depth of his government’s involvement comes to light. Gilad, former Israeli defense official, said Qatar "gave Hamas $30 million per month… and they have used it to enhance, to cement their grip on Gaza."
Qatar has vowed not to stop those payments. Qatari minister of state for foreign affairs told CNN his government will continue to make payments to Gaza to support the enclave, as it has been doing for years.
The funding deal is one reason why many Israelis today place part of the blame for the October 7 Hamas terror attack on Netanyahu personally.

If Netanyahu had come on October 8th, asking for trillions of dollars to conduct a war against Hamas, it wouldn't have been allowed if the world had been aware he did everything in his power through the years to build up Hamas.
As CNN points out, this is just now coming to light in Europe and North America. The world suddenly realizes we got tricked into allowing a genocide. Israel/Netanyahu created an opponent called Hamas, ensured they were well funded, and began total destruction of Gaza once Hamas did an attack.
Incredibly, Qatar says they will continue to pump $30 million in cash into Hamas every month, with Israel's blessing and assistance! Meanwhile, the massacre continues...
