Using A Fake Owl To Scare Off Birds

in #gardner8 years ago (edited)

Growing fruit trees is not that hard, but keeping birds away from your fruit like cherries is very hard. So I've tried a few things to keep birds away, the only two ways that worked was using a net and a fake owl. The only way to prevent birds is to use a airhorn but my neighbors wouldn't like that. So when i used the net, the birds still found away to get under the net, but still prevented the cherry tree from being devoured.

Now using the fake owl i decided to get the owl that moves his head. So far it works very good, the head moves when the wind blows, and it seems life like when you have it beside the tree. I can see less birds in the area, and i haven't seen a squirrel or rabbit in my backyard since I added the owl.

The fake owl works, place it beside the fruit tree or garden that you want to protect. I have my fake owl placed high enough beside my cherry tree that it looks like it's sitting on a branch. If your looking to buy one they are very cheap, and walmart ships directly to your house.

haha ,this is very good :) i remember one of my neighbor had Fake Flamingo :D

Birds get fooled very easy the first time, some of them won't return to the area. If the owl is not moved to a new spot the next day, those birds will know its fake.
Thanks.

nice idea!!

Sounds Interesting I Am Always Having Birds Stealing My Strawberries From My Bushes In My Yard !

Do you have any experience with citrus trees? I just bought a lime tree and it's struggling.

Sorry I don't have any experience with citrus trees.

We got one that has a little solar thing on top so it keeps the head moving.

That's pretty cool, wish i seen that one when purchasing the fake owl.

Well now we need a new one for the cherry tree! That's a great suggestion as we anticipate a lot of cherries this year!

good posting
I have followed u
very thank u :):)

Thank you.

thanks for your gift :)

Thanks.

I need to give this a try. Saw a squirrel running from my grape vine today

Interesting. I haven't grown fruit trees ever so I didn't know birds were such a problem.

Right now I am having problems keeping pest away from my garden greens.... :(

Garlic insecticide works the best, try to make it, its very easy. Also if you don't disturb the spiders in the garden they'll eat all the bugs, it crazy but it works

Sounds worth a try!

Thanks

Amazing stuff

Thank you.

it looks like real. great strategy on that

It works great. When all the cherries are picked I will remove the owl so nature can comeback.
