Oh my. This post is so informative and I am so glad to learn that I can make Biochar without a barrel system! So, after you mix the urine in, then do you also sort of dry it out a bit, so its not pasty? Also as for adding the microbes, would it get enough microbes by adding it into a garden bed directly into the soil? Like, would that count as the 3rd M?

It really is empowering to make it with tools you already have like a shovel. When I first learned of the concept of pits for biochar, I was hooked.
As for direct application, it depends on your soil. I would recommend charging it before adding it, either by mixing it with compost for a while or by making a compost tea and soaking the biochar (you need much less compost for this method). Best of luck in your biochar journey
