Imagine being my neighbour and having to walk by this atrocity when you could be seeing a clear cut with round up ready grass.
And all that food, who even eats anyways right? I know most of us eat grass, especially the fertilized and weed'n'feeded kind!
Who in their right mind would want to go shopping for supper right outside their front door?
Yeah, that was my son and I tonight getting dinner off of our front "lawn". Potatoes, green and yellow beans, zucchini, peas...we're right messed up in the head hey?
Beautiful! Grass is so boring and overrated anyway. Thank you for sharing the photos. We are upvoting and resteeming this for our followers and recommending it to our friends on facebook as well.

Yes, I certainly did notice, and I am still on fb. What is your page, I'd love to be a part of it, give you my like definitely!
We really should do more to follow your example here. The Wife has put in one substantial garden so far, but there's a lot more land we could use.
It's taken a couple of years just to cut back all the brush that my grandfather let take over this place, and anything we don't mow gets immediately overrun by bittersweet vines and poison ivy. But running that lawn mower for a couple hours every week is not my favorite chore. Maybe we'll trade it for planting and weeding next year.
Your house looks absolutely charming nestled in behind the garden.
Thank you So very much Mr. Winston! I know with all your energy you put into mowing, you would love to expand the gardens instead. And it's not even too much weeding once the squash grows in to shade it all. The potatoes are all shading now too. I know YOU GOT THIS!!!!
Eww what happened to your grass?!
LOL
Bwa hahhahaaa the food ate it! :D
What's the difference between yellow beans and green beans? I can honestly say, I never had or heard of yellow beans.
I LOVE green beans!
HAHAA honestly I don't think there's a difference at all LOL!! They both taste AMAZING!! And the same LOL!
Haha, are they two different beans, or one is just more ripe than the other? I am very interested in this bean dilemma as you can tell hhaha
No, they are the same tasting kind of bean, same ripeness, same texture, just different colours so far as I can tell. I can't even tell you why I always get the different colours, maybe because I like colour. I have purple beans too, almost ready to pick LOL same taste as a green bean, and actually once they are steamed, not steemed haha, they turn green! Weird eh?
One day, when I am responsible and have my own compound, hopefully with a big family, and all my family, I will grow my own vegetables and food!! I'm jealous!!
That's so awesome Lukin! Something tells me you'll be a natural, you seem to really have a passion for life, and can do anything you set your mind to.
I've always thought there was a subtle difference between the taste of green beans and yellow beans, also called wax beans for some reason.
The beans I don't care for the taste so much are purple beans. Of course, that's just my own taste buds, I know several people who really like the taste of purple beans.
Thanks for weighing in Amber!
You're welcome!
Thanks for sharing a beautiful lifestyle about
homsteading, every people should get their food directly from his garden
We hope some day have a lot of wild endible plants in our garden,

Yay! Thats the best kinda food. You Go!
Thank you so much Good Dr!
My goodness your house is adorable! And the garden in front is perfect! :) Your house reminds me of my great grandparent's house in many ways. :D Lovely. :D
Thank you sweetness! Yes, this old home has treated us sooooo good, even though we rent, we have an amazing landlord who lets us do all sorts of crazy stuff, and we've really become part of the land here. It's a tight fit getting all 5 of us in here, however, it is a HOME in every sense of the word. <3 <3 <3
It does look cozy! What's the square footage on it? It's quite cute. I'd love to have a smaller home. Haha
Oh my, I'll have to ask my husband when he gets home :)
I envy you Lyndsay, I really wish to do what you and your family is doing. I'm hoping my direction by next year will be living an hour out of town at a freinds acreage. If the Bitcoin keeps climbing....
You SOOO got this Covey!! xoxo
Your fellow Canadian Curtis Stone, the Urban Farmer, would be proud 😊
You can't eat grass, you can only sm*k3 it
HHAAHA!! GOOD ONE!! And thank you for recommending Curtis to me, I'm gonna check out his work! :) Appreciated Pennsif!
This is his YouTube channel :
And this is his book :
Why Thank You!
Ha Ha !!! Nice Cooked and served
Great post. :) I wasn't sure what to expect when I read the first part, but then I could see you were joking and I laughed.. I wish more people were like you in regards to doing their own gardening and such!
AHHA! Glad I gotchya! :) :) Do you grow anything?
Great front yard. You can't harvest and eat the grass. Could. Just not as tasty! 🐓🐓
Thank you very much Mother2Chicks! Yeah grass may cause some stomach issues over time LOL!! :D
Glad you stopped by. Always appreciate a good space to grow food. 🐓🐓
Grass is both boring and overrated! We plan to expand our garden patch as soon as we can find/afford enough fencing to keep the local marauding "gang" of deer out... as far as they are concerned, ANYthing not behind a 7-foot fence is basically a "salad bar," and that includes lots and lots of plants local garden centers swear are "deer proof."
Thanks for setting a good example.
Yea hahahha oooh the deer, they are such buggers eh? That is probably the only good thing about living right on the highway like we do, the deer come to start their salad bar (we've only lost a few bean leaves this year to them) and I'm sure the reason they don't stay for a longer night feast is because a car drives by.
Good luck getting your fencing, and with your new plot. It's going to be BEAUTIFUL to expand your gardens! Mmmmmmmmm.....Yum!!
Good for you @lyndsaybowes!
Monocultures like a neon green lawn are un-natural and unhealthy.
I'm not as disciplined as you though, I've just let our yard go to pasture. ;-)
Pastures are important too :) I'm sure you have a very healthy ecosystem in there!
We certainly have lots of bunnies. ;-)
AWWWW!!! hahahahaa a good reason to NOT grow food eh? I've heard bunnies can be quite the trouble in the ol' garden!
But they're very cute to watch hop around in the yard.
Agreed! Where we used to live, in the Canadian prairies, we would have these huge jackrabbits that would hop around our suburban neighbourhood, and our kids would have a lot of fun trying to catch them, of course they never stood a chance LOL! Wasn't until we visited Ontario, that I got to see some actual bunnies, and they are SOOOOOOOO much cuter!!!!!! The jackrabbits actually kinda scared me lolol.
In the grass that I do mow, there are a few places I've skipped because I know there are rabbit holes and watching the little bunnies is a favorite past time.
Hope the city leaves you alone! great idea, keep up the good work!
Thank you very much, and yes, our neighbours are absolutely wonderful and would never try and change us <3
rock on, you guys
Thank you! We shall :)
I agree grow food, cheaper and healthier.
Yes, it just makes so much sense all around. Thank you Diana <3
Upvoting, thank you!
Thank you very much too :)
Lovely garden you have there!
My front yard may be about the only part of the yard that doesn't have garden beds on it...
Right on, and thank you! Our front yard is the only place on our land that gets full sun, hence the hothouse being there too for all our spicy peppers. The back yard is lined in huge white Pines and gets half sun at best. What do you grow Amber?
The main things I grow are potatoes, green beans, dry beans, tomatoes, sweet peppers, carrots, and field corn for making hominy. I usually also grow some kind of zucchini and some kind of winter squash. This year, I'm also growing popcorn.
Oooh COOL!!! I didn't know popcorn was it's own special plant, I will have to try that next year, the kids would certainly love it! Thanks for teaching me something new!
You're welcome!
There are several varieties of popcorn to choose from, depending on what you want to grow.
