We're beginning to harvest veggies from our aquaponics system as it grows larger and more complex by the week
Aquaponics is a thing that takes a little while to learn, but isn't half as complicated as the YouTube experts make out.
All you need is a pump, some pipes and a place fish and a place for 're veggies to grow. Then you need patience and the will to fiddle a bit.
Our system has grown from a pump and a repurposed NFT (Nutrient Flow Technique) table and a bucket with a couple of fish to the beast you see in the video.
Most systems use IBCs (those big, white, cube shaped containers) but our space limitations don't allow for one of those, so we've made do with smaller stuff.
The next thing we need to learn about is how to assess and control the nutrient levels in the system. At the moment, we don't have enough fish so I add Seasol liquid fertilizer weekly and a little urine daily. As with any garden, there's more to nutrition than, of course!
It's been an easier journey than we expected and we'll be sharing with you stories of how we did each part.

That setup is awesome! What plants are you growing? Can you grow in the winter?
So far, weve done well with lettuce, basil, kankong, sweet potato and warrigal greens. Spinach did well before but weve substituted that out for more sweet potato.
You can grow in winter. Just grow winter veggies and
