The Garden Chronicles - Squirrel's Tail Grass

in #gardening7 years ago

The Squirrel's Tail Grass we planted from seed this Spring has reached it's peak growth for the season and is now starting to hibernate for the fall and winter.

Starting Squirrels Tail Grass in the yard is very difficult to do. It works best by starting them out in pots, then transferring to the yard after they have developed. We plan to split these containers up soon and transplant about 12 clumps of grass to our yard, placed in a really cool fashion. We will follow these well into next year to see how things are growing out in the yard.

Back in May, here is what they looked like as tiny sprouts at about 6 weeks. Nothing really there yet.

Then here is that same batch of sprouts in early July. It simply looks like nice tall, green grass at this point.

Here they are again in mid July with those famous Squirrel's Tails starting to show at the top.

Finally, here they are in August, beginning to turn yellow and starting to fall apart for fall and winter hibernation.
