I'm no expert but have a little experience. The main problem about transplanting seedling little plants is temperature difference. People will grow the seedlings inside, then BAM! they put them outside in the heat. That's usually what kills them. They need to be grown in the same temperature. I know a professional tomato farmer--I'm not kidding--in Mt. Airy, MD named Brandon Hosley. I'll see if I can get him to come here to help.

Hmm, I wonder if it was too warm in the sun when I moved them out there. That could have been what happened. They were too young still for temperature change.
