I have never been to Provence, so I can only imagine the smell in the air. And probably can relate a little bit with Eucalyptus trees that grow in Portugal. If you drive through a forest with them on a warm day you can smell the lovely and fresh eucalyptus scent. I just love it.

And lavender here in the wild grows pretty big too with very woody stems. Never saw the light coloured one though. Its so pretty! I am amazed how many different insects it attracts. And Dragonflies? Didn't know they would like it :)
