Tree Felling In Africa!

in #gardening5 years ago (edited)

Hey everyone, when living on a farm/plot generally you will need to do much maintenance on 'Rogue' Trees, This Eucalyptus was getting a little dangerous as 'widow makers' were falling on a regular basis close to the boundary fence so my landlord decided to chop it down..

This truly was interesting. the inside of this Tree was hollow and to my utter shock and surprise a Wild Banana Tree was growing inside the Trunk, how without access to sunlight you may ask? I have NO CLUE, amazing phenomenon though!

Upon further inspection I checked the side of the Tree, part of the wild Banana had been growing outside and part of it had branched off inside. which would explain how it managed to survive because there was no way the part inside was getting any access to light at all.

The pic below is a great pic to illustrate exactly what I am trying to explain. The Main Blue Gum cut at the bottom. The severed Banana Stem inside the Trunk and the part growing outside, is nature just not too amazing for words?

My landlord also cut a few other trees down in the area. He plans to make a coffee table from these logs. They look incredible as is sanded smooth and varnished as is and used as a 'rustic' solid wood table top, pretty neat idea right? Quiet a common thing in South Africa!

In the below pic we have a few of the permanently employed staff on the residence cutting some branches off one of the hot houses. Had this not been done possibly resulted in 1 x Broken Hot House! My landlord has a Nursery and this hot house, or cool house rather shades all the lower light plants!

I trust you all have an incredible weekend and with the general crypto sentiment and marking really looking swell of late why not?

Cheer$;)
