How pecan trees grow

in #gardening7 years ago

I was unable to quickly find a pecan coming out of its husk, so I posted a picture of a walnut that is comming out of its husk.  I wanted to briefly explain to people about pecans.  Right now it is about the middle of July and the pecans on our trees look like small green footballs.  The small footballs range in size but they are currently about the size of the "end  joint" of your little finger.  Actually the pecan is much smaller than what can be seen.  What is seen is the husk that is around the pecan.

The pecans will continue to grow and some of them will get to be as big as a golfball (except it will be shaped like a football)  Proably in about September, one end of the pecan husk will open up (like a flower).  The end that does not open up will still be attached to the tree limb.  The pecan itself is also attached to the husk, so at certain times when you walk under the pecan tree you will look up and see a green husks (that is proably turning brown by then) and on the inside of thoes husks will be the nuts.  Its kind of like a peeled banana:

When dealing with anything that GOD produces in nature the answer is "it depends".  A few of the nuts will fall down by themselves, other nuts will stay in the tree until the wind blows...and sometimes the husk will not open up and when the wind blows the nut and closed husk will all fall out of the tree.  It is a good idea to not let the nuts remain inside of the husks.  Removing a pecan from the husk is like smashing a banna that is stuck inside of the peel.

The oils that are inside of the husks will stain your hands (Maby that is why the teeth of squirls are not pure white)

(Random information pecan  wood stain comes from pecan husks, and squirls make a mess when the eat pecans.)

There seems to be an issue with the third image; it doesn't display in the post and when I try to open it in a new tab an error message pops up saying the format isn't supported. Just thought I'd let you know so you can fix it :).

Thank you, I saw that but I do not know how to fix it...any advice?

When I search the image URL I see this: '{"error":"Supported image formats are: gif, jpeg, and png"}'. Try downloading the image, open it in an image editing software, I believe even MS Paint will do, and saving it as a png or jpeg and uploading it to something like imgur or imageshack. Alternatively, you could try and find a similar royalty-free image that is in one of those formats.

The part that I think is odd is that I treated all of the images the same and only 1 picture did not turnout right?
