A little bit of warm weather through the week had our little salad patch blooming. We decided to thin some out to have baby salad greens with lunch. The thinning also allows more room for those left to grow.
Here is the dense patch before thinning.
And after thinning. There wasn't a great deal of rhyme or reason, having never tried this growing tactic before. I tried to leave some larger ones and some smaller, and pick out those that were growing in funky directions, or where there were a few growing very close.
Not sure what's in there, it was a mesclun mix seed packet. There is definitely some red mustard, and a couple of lettuces I recognise. Looks like we'll get another thinning in before letting the rest grow out some.
Also thinned out some of our ground cover herbs, basically young fenugreek and coriander, to let a little light in for the tomato and pepper seedlings gone in. As the popsticks say, we also planted some daikon radish seeds. There's a little tomato seedling centre-right, and some sprawling snowpeas. At back is our one-plant potato mound, getting bulked up with dirt and overgrown nasturtium. This little patch is starting to get some good sun during the days, and looking very green.
Not a bad haul in the end. The baby greens topped off a sandwich with tomato and home-made ricotta.
The herbs topped off the channa masala whipped up for dinner.
