Projects worth Rs. 4,000 crores have been approved for Ganga Cleanliness Mission

In the ninth meeting of Executive Committee of National Ganga Sanitation Mission, projects worth Rs. 4,000 crores have been approved. This includes 20 MLD public wastewater treatment plant for leather refining factories located in Jajamau, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. In this project of three stages of estimated cost of Rs 629 crore, there will be a pre-purification unit of 380 different leather refining units, one 20 CETP, in which natural, biological and advanced refinement will be arranged. The center's stake in this project is Rs. 472 crores. This is a major step to eliminate pollution in the Ganges from the industrial city of Kanpur.

NMCG has identified other major drains spread by pollution through CPCB and other public sector undertakings, which are found in main pipes. Here, technology service providers will establish refinement facilities including containerized modular purification plants to reduce the pollution of Ganga river and its tributaries. Identified nallahs are then classified into priority nallahs, where immediate intervention is needed. For the first phase of the project 20 drains have been taken into consideration. To manage the pressure of pollution in the nallahs for the interim period of infrastructure development, the management of the cumulative impact of adoption of technical-economic and continuous technology at the original place outside the original location and the release of sewage directly in the Ganges river. An estimated cost of 165.16 crores will be made on this. The Central Government will carry out capital investment and operate and maintain for 15 years. In the Begusarai, Hajipur and Munger in Bihar, three sewage infrastructure projects have been revised to 230.06 crores, Rs. 305.18 crores and the estimated cost of Rs. 294.02 crores respectively. The share of the Center in these projects will be Rs 161.04 crores, Rs 213.63 crores and Rs 205.81 crores respectively. The Central Government will carry out capital investment and operate and maintain for 15 years.
