Now that the Destiny 2 Beta has ended, it will be over a month before we can get our hands on the chance to get our light back. The beta allowed us to play through the first mission of the game. Which set the stage for some big events happening in the universe. As a guardian, out light is what gives us the strength to battle the evils that threaten mankind and a peaceful way of life. What do you do when that light is stripped away? You do everything you can to get it back.

To start, you choose which guardian you want to be and dive in. The starting video goes over that someone has been sabotaging your defensive systems and coms have been spotty. When they realize that their com satellites are missing they are met with the invasion of Ghaul, the leader of the Red legion. A Cabal army hellbent on stealing the light from the Traveler. That is when you show up. Dropping somewhere in the wall, you make your way through your first set of enemies to reach the top of the Tower. After rendezvousing with Zavala to fight off a wave of Cabal and are told to meet up with Ikora to locate the Speaker. When he can’t be found, Ikora leaves to find him. You are told to head to the North Tower to meet up with a pilot to be dropped on the command ship.

When you land on the command ship you fight your way through to find a way to take it down. The way to do that is to take out the shield generator, which is at the bottom of the ship. As you fight across the ship you get the chance to test out some of the new powers that are available to you dependent on which type of guardian you chose. Not only that you will notice that you are given 2 buffs along with your grenade. Just as you are about to get to the shield generator you are ambushed by Ghaul. During the cutscene after, you witness your light being stolen by the ominous machine that attached itself to the Traveler. Then you are kicked off the command ship, ending the first mission and setting the tone of what to expect from the release.

Along with the first mission to the Story Mode of the game we were given access to the Crucible and a Strike mission. The return of Control was one of the game modes that we could play, with some changes. One of the most noticeable changes that were made is the elimination of needing to cap the flag you spawn near. The changing of the game modes to 4v4 didn’t seem to change the flow of the game too much. The map that the game took place on was called the Endless Vale, a map on one of the new planets named Nessus, full of Vex architecture with lush red vegetation. The matches would last about 10 minutes and firefights would get intense. The map is a small/medium map with sidearms and submachine guns being the most utilized. The map also has 2 spots where you can pick up power ammo which are located near each starting flag. Another noticeable change to the Control game mode is the elimination of neutralizing the flag before capping it. Not only that, the time it takes to cap a flag will not speed up with the number of people on it. These are small changes but make a big change in the way guardians obtain points.

The other Crucible game mode was Countdown. This one is an attack or defend game mode. You start on the side that needs to set charges at one of two locations or the side that needs to keep that from happening. Each team would switch sides after each round. Either side can win if all opponents are eliminated as well. The map that this game was played on was called Midtown, located on Earth. A city map that provided many tight corridors to navigate through. Like many other games with similar game modes this provides heated firefights in the locations where each charge can be set. I noticed that the charge location that was in a tight enclosed spot was favored amongst most players. There are also heavy ammo power ups near each charge location making this a fun game mode focused on team work. This game mode being 4v4 also didn’t seem to dampen the gameplay either.

The strike they gave you was called Inverted Spire and was set on Nessus. They gave you the objective to find out why the Cabal were there and investigate why. When you start you travel towards where the Cabal are concentrated at. After fighting through Cabal patrols and traverse the treacherous terrain, you find a dig site of the Red Legion and the Cabal and Vex are duking it out. Letting them fight and cleaning up the stragglers you make your way to the top of the dig site just to find it’s heavily guarded. Once you mop the floor with them you head down to find out what the Red Legion was digging for. Going deep into the dig site you are met with Vex enemies that are trying to keep out anyone that is not a Vex. When you defeat them, you are greeted with what the Red Legion was searching for, A Vex Module Mind and he is very mad. Once you defeat the Mind you find out that he is what the Red Legion were searching for and would have had a %60 chance of defeating him. I’m not sure what that mean exactly but I suspect that he was protecting useful information that was valuable to the Red Legion.
The beta was limited but enough to get anyone that likes Destiny plenty excited for September 6th when the game is set to release, 2 days sooner than when they originally revealed the release date.

Running into bullets and getting some good kills!

I'm going to play this game a lot so I don't run into as many bullets. Would be easier if I had a proper PC because Keyboard and mouse would make a high k/d so much easier.
