Did You Play Any Marvel Beat'Em Up Games Growing Up?

in #gaming7 years ago

To continue our marvel week lets talk marvel games. Now there are a LOT of them. I can do posts for days but I will be leaving only 3 on this post and I will only be talking beat'em ups (I think I want to talk about the x-men sega games next). A beat'em up is a side scrolling game where you beat up everything on the screen. And that is it. They were a lot of fun. Marvel games populated the nintendo, sega and super. But unlike other franchises they were actually good. Some of them very good, including one of my favorite beat'em ups from super nintendo. And an x-men arcade game that was a quarter eater.

Captain America And The Avengers:

Even the name of the game was cool. Pick your avenger like the cap or iron man and fight your way to the Red Skull. I never beat this game and it was one I need to find sometime. Who is with me for some co-op action? I call hawkeye, don't ask me why, he was always my pick.

X-Men Arcade:

Maybe this is the nostalgia talking but this was one of the best arcade games ever made. You could pick from six heroes including wolverine, cyclops and Colossus (my pick every time). Every character had their own special that made the game easier but you were going to be spending a lot of quarters if you wanted to make it to Magneto. Such a classic. This one never made it to the consoles.

Maximum Carnage:

This game gets my vote as the best beat'em up for the Super Nintendo. Not best marvel but best beat'em up (sorry Final Fight). The reason this game stood out besides the fact you were spider-man was the depth. There was hidden areas, you could climb walls and you could get side kicks to help you out. This was a lot a game that usually consisted of you pressing the same button over and over. And you could shoot web. Plus that awesome sound track.

Any games you want to add? Like Separation Anxiety? Let me know in the comments

A gaming store my friend owned got X-Men Arcade. It was a huge machine that had to be taken apart a bit to get it through the door. We played it constantly for the first few months. Really fun.

no. sir
i didnt play
but if you suggest i will play it

woow...great post i like it ... from @ fauzan11

The amazing spider game, the punisher. I loved the amazing Spider-Man game . I added the two to the list

Yes!! X-Men Arcade and im agree with you it was a great arcade game

I played the x-men in the arcades..of course wolverine was that dude, but also marvel vs Capcom

I played the heck out of the four player X-Men in a local arcade that had it set to $0.25 per play. The other arcade in town that had the two player model had it set to $0.50 per play. Loved that game. When I discovered MAME, X-Men was my first ROM download. A great game but oh so geared towards eating quarters.

Too bad this game didn't see release during the 16-Bit or 32-Bit era. I know we saw this game release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 but by then it was not the same. I mean, the port was great from what I read but the "time had passed" was never truer than here.

I did try out Captain America and the Avengers on Sega Genesis but was not impressed. X-Men was just so much better in my eyes. Never got a chance to play the arcade original on this one though.

Oh x-men was so much better. You know I don't like the ps3 ports because they give you unlimited credits. It ruins it.

I was not aware that the PS3 version gave you unlimited continues. That is kind of what SNK did with their home "ports" for the Neo Geo. Kind of ruins the fun if you ask me. Course, with SNK, if you are spending $200+ for a game, I better damn well be able to continue as much as I want. Not so much for a $10, or so, PSN version of an arcade game. Not sure why it is different but it just feels like it should be different.

Yes still own my red cartridge for Maximum Carnage on Sega Genesis!

I love the xmen arcade it my best game before.

The MARVEL: ULTIMATE ALLIANCE is the best game!! but there are others as X-MEN LEGENDS II: RISE OF APOCALYPSE and MARVEL: AVENGERS ALLIANCE.

X-MEN in super-ness the best i play and spiderman in ps2 mmmm and Marvel vs Capcom uffff those times, imiss that times

I think an equally interesting question is, are there any games you threw salami and cheese at while yelling about how nice they play.

I would challenge you to Marvel V.S Capcom.. But my brother pawned my game system x.x been working on getting a new system though 😄

Amazing

My son likes to play X-men on his playstation!
