Classic Game Reviews - Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

in #gaming7 years ago

Hey steemers! I'm hear to tell you guys all about my favorite video game of all time, LoZ: Ocarina of Time! If you've never played this game you've probably been under a rock since '98. I would strongly advise you to find a Nintendo 64 and buy Ocarina of Time. This game is such a cult classic it's put into its own category of awesomeness!

My favorite part of Zelda games are the fact that they are all legends. Even though there is twenty plus different games they are all technically the same story. It's just a story that's been passed down for generations and it gets more skewed with every telling. With the exception of Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker which has nothing to do with the original character of Link.

Ocarina of Time focuses on our hero Link traveling seven years into the future (by pulling the master sword) to destroy Gannondorf. The time travel dynamic is freakin' awesome because it essentially creates two maps. Even though they are the same landscapes everything goes from nice and peaceful in the past to absolutely destroyed in the future. It's also funny to see characters who were children grow up and they all say bassically the same thing, "You look just like a boy I met seven years ago." Duh! It's the same person.

Inventory:
I love the inventory of this game because you aqquire gear that actually effects the way you look. This was the first game that I ever played that you could change your shirt, boots, gloves etc and they would actually change in game play. Same goes for shields, swords & other items such as the bow 'n' arrow.

Combat:
The fighting style is absolutely awesome. Completely different from it's predecessor Link to the Past. In this game you are able to front flip, back flip, jump side to side and wind up your sword. The boss fights are like watching a movie to people around you. I remember being a little kid and I could watch my brother play this game for hours at a time.

Items:
OoT has an insane number of items you can use. Check out the picture above for the full list. My personal favorite is the hook shot which allows you to get to far away places.

Side Quests:
The game is loaded with side quests that will keep you busy for a while. From wrangling a horse, catching trophy fish, acquiring masks, secret weapons and more!

The final boss fight of this game is absolutely epic. With multiple phases you are guaranteed to need a few tries for this one. Just when you think Gannon is finished you get to watch him to turn into his final form Gannondorf!

What are you waiting for?! Go pick the game up!

I would personally give this game five out of five stars. It rocks!

Sort:

LOZ: Ocarina of Time is certainly a classic that everyone should play, though me personally i think Majora's Mask was the better N64 Zelda game.

I want to play this game for some time now... maybe I'll get the 3DS version

Great game! I never truly got the chance to fully experience it because I was apart of the play station final fantasy cult that closed me off from n64 and Zelda.

It always feels like the game that got away and I plan to go back and complete it one day. This post just inspired me to do so.

Thanks for the reminder.

I loooved Ocarina of Time!

I would strongly advise you to find a Nintendo 64 and buy Ocarina of Time.

That's not even needed anymore! I managed to get my hands on the Game Cube version and the last version I got was for the Nintendo 3DS!

The problem I always had with this game though, was that I got stuck at some point and I didn't really know how to progress through the rest of the story. My brother did manage to finish and I sometimes asked for his help back when we were young, to get through the harder/confusing parts.
