Leeroy Jenkins is one of the most iconic viral videos that was ever released. It is a gameplay video of a group of friends playing World of Warcraft doing a raid.
For those of you who never played a Massive Multiplayer Online game (MMO) like World of Warcraft, a raid is when 8-50 people or more get together to fight legendary monsters. These raids have a very low success rate unless everything is planned and organized perfectly and you have enough people with the patience and skills to execute. Many raids end in complete disaster because of one small sub-second failure.
Leeroooooooy Jeeeeeeenkinnnnnnns!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the original footage of the event that changed Internet history forever. The video has spawned tons of memes and parody viral videos from fans and even celebrities. There is even a Hearthstone card made after him.
If you haven't watched the above video yet, I highly recommend you do. The video shows a guild (PALS FOR LIFE) planning and preparing for a very hard raid. The area was originally going to be skipped but Leeroy needed some shoulders for his Paladin, so being PALS everyone agrees to help out. The difficulty is obviously hard as the numbers guy calculates a 32.3333333333% chance of survival.
Instead of waiting, Leeroy shouts Leerooooy Jeeeeeenkinnnss!!!! and charges in. His PALS look at each other and run in after him protecting their Pal. Shit goes wrong, really wrong and we find out Leeroy has chicken.
During recent events in the United States regarding Net Neutrality, one of the members decided to release a dry run of the video that he kept quiet for over 10 years. The plan was to release it at some point but when he felt it was right. With the ridiculous claims Ajit Pai (FCC Chairman) made about Net Neutrality angered him so much, he released the following video.
Leeroy Jenkins - Dry Run Edition
I am releasing this never-before-seen first take/dry run of the Leeroy Jenkins video in hopes of raising awareness about Net Neutrality. I’ve been holding onto this for over a decade waiting for the “right” moment to make it public, and then last week Ajit Pai created his awful/condescending video and it riled me up so much that I decided it was finally time to unleash this gem of Internet history on the world to do my part to help out.
In the video, one of the Pals unable to retain character starts laughing.
While many had suspicions it was staged, it is now official.
Leeroy Jenkins has spawned a number of parodies and even has been featured on Jeopardy. Some of the parodies are very professional and involve famous actors and stunning filming.

Out of nowhere this new video someone animated Leeroy Jenkin's yesterday!
I wish I saw this before I posted this.
Finding Leeroy's truth? Let's do this.
As suspected it was staged. A sad and hilarious day for nerd-dom.
I am embarrassed to say that after years of playing Hearthstone I did not know where Leeroy Jenkins came from until this post. I played Everquest all through high school (on dial-up modem no less) but WoW didn't come out until I was in college and I didn't have the time for those type of games anymore.
We spent so many hours preparing for raids in EQ and I would get bored and I found out that if you positioned yourself just right on the corner of a wall you could actually go inside the wall in certain cases due to a bug with the clipping.
So I would spend most of the time while we were preparing for raids trying to do that, and then if i did it I would usually get stuck in the wall and we would all have to wait for a GM to come and get me out :-)
Everquest brings back memories.
traaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!
Don't feel bad, it just means you're not old :D
I played Diablo in college, by the time WOW came out I was a young adult with plenty of time on my hands.
My roommate probably invented griefing, cause in the original Diablo you could kill any player at any time, take their loot and leave the server. We might have had some great memes if screen recording and YouTube had been a thing. Like the time my roommate accidentally equipped a battle axe to his chest instead of armor, and was stuck there dead in the game and no one could resurrect him.
I remember the day this video hit machinima and went viral - I was just a teen and a TOTAL WoW addict at the time. I loved it and it became immortalized forever in WoW.
I love how they created a title/a card for the TCG/even a special event in WoD where you could "resurrect him" and then earn him as a follower by completing Upper Blackrock Spire - Leeeroy style, aka, running as fast as possible and pulling everything lmao.
Such good times :D Thanks for bringing back great memories!
Awwwwww, I kinda wanted this to be authentic. But it's still a funny piece of history and I will keep loving it :)
I'm writing this as I wait for the short film version to load. I think I already watched it, but I'll watch it now regardless since it looks to be pretty good quality and I love short films. :D
Ok, I hadn't watched it hahaha, it's awesome. <3 Definitely recommended if you're reading this and haven't watched the short film.
edit:
Saw this Youtube comment and I'm not sure what to believe, but I'll go with it because it means more happiness for me :D
They have said it was staged to raise members so they can raid.
Oh! Well, that actually sounds like a sound strategy to campaign for the guild. When I used to play WoW (private servers; can't afford the game), my friend always called me like "we were waitiing!" because I had the only healer in his social circle, lol.
I actually miss him. I'm going to drop him a message.
The 1st time I heard about this I laughed hysterically. The whole team had a gameplan and he just rushed !!! He's like most of the people I play Call Of Duty with lol
I am unsure what the net neutrality thing has to do with Leeroy Jenkins being staged, but I got a giggle out of the short film adaptation. 😂
The original Leeroy didn't like the way Net Neutrality was going (or the fact it was going away) and how things like Leeroy Jenkins would never have happened without a free and open Internet.
The destruction of Net Neutrality threatens that allowing ISP's to choose what content their customers can view by slowing down anything they don't want or don't make money off.
Ah, okay. I'm familiar with the issue, I just wasn't grasping the connection. Sometimes I'm dense. ;) Sorry
I bet the chicken was real.
I'd like to think so.
Ahhhh, good times! Not a surprise it was staged, but still hilarious.
I just got into WOW last year and when I switched from playing MTG to mostly Hearthstone. Hilarious, but to be honest I felt like the Leeroy vid was planned, there reactions seeemed too nonchalant and I know how pissed people get wasting their time on a bombed raid hahah. Either way, its cool that these guys are using their 'fame' to bring awareness and get people fired up about what net neutrality really means! Even if you don't feel like that you have a lot of control and we probably all going down like Leeroy, at least don't be chicken x)
The video was staged to raise members so they had a big enough guild to raid, it worked too well.
LMAO ahahah that video is fucking amazing . The rise and subsequent grovel haha. I am a little confused though... I thought HE had made the name Leeroy Jenkins for is WOW character, so how could Blizzard have owned the name for things like shirts etc? They own what you do in the game?
I'm still dying from when he says "I have a surprise" and Jamie lee just flatly says "I know." . I'm literally shaking ahaha
It's probably in the terms and conditions

I used to play so much wow back in the day... sigh... those were good times
and doing a leeeeeerrrooooyyy was famous even back then
I was so sad when I found out that this was staged! Now I am suspicious of the in-game funerals....life...has....changed. What is real?
It's been known for a while... Pals for Life is a guild that intentionally picked African-American sounding names for their group and liked to troll. Leroy Jenkins was one of them, I think Terell Owens was another one, and so on.
The "story" was that Leroy was tired of waiting for the raid and left to go get chicken. When he came back he just decided to go and everyone else followed him in. That's why his team says "you are just stupid as hell" and Leroy says "at least I have chicken" at the end. The Viral raid video is really just a racist caricature.
MORE DOTS. MORE DOTS. MORE DOTS.
At least he got chicken.
I love this one this memory thanks for doing it ;D
This is really interesting. I am really amazed with those.
